Posted July 1, 200916 yr Well ive decided since i still have a week or two before i can start building my box, im going to design a ported box instead of a sealed box for my single ss rl-p 18. im going to stick with the suggested size and tuning(5cubes, 27hz) but i want to use flared aero ports. So here are some questions.1) what diameter port should i buy and how many?( i kind of want two for the looks, but if ones better, let me know)2) do you measure the flare of the port when tuning it?3) were is a good place to buy them?thanks for the help!
July 1, 200916 yr 1) It depends on the length of the port.2) I think you do but I'm not sure.3) Two of these should get you right around 27hz in 5 cubes, just be sure to make them each 17 inches in length.http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=268-352
July 2, 200916 yr pretty sure you are supposed to only measure the straight part of the port (ie don't include the length of the flare(s))
July 5, 200916 yr Actually, you measure the entire length of the port, including the flared end. You best bet is to check out the aero port website and use their calculator. Then when your ready to buy them you can get them from partsexpress.com.Aero Ports Website
July 7, 200916 yr Author so ill just get two 4in ports from parts express, and cut them to length. Is that the right amount of port area? also, its going in a trunk, so were should I put the ports? I was thinking sub/ports back, ports driver side one on top of the other. does that sound ok? thanks.
July 8, 200916 yr Author I was also wondering if the measurement the calculator gave me is the length for both of the ports, or is each one supposed to be that length? can someone also help me out with the my other post above this one. PLEASE!
July 8, 200916 yr Author someone help me out please!! i want to build the box now, but i want to make sure i order the right ports.
July 9, 200916 yr what type of car is it? sometimes sub up , port back is better, not sure , but at least this is a bump for you.
July 9, 200916 yr 2 4" Ports will not be sufficient port area. It's only 25.13 area of port. You need 60-80 Area of port.
July 9, 200916 yr When you measure the length of a flared port, you include 1/2 the length of the flare. For example.. if the length of the flared area of the port is 3 inches, you would add 1.5 inches to the length of the non flared area for your measurements.
July 9, 200916 yr Author well the 6in ports are way to expensive so i thinks ill just go for a slot port. Anyways, thanks for the help!

July 22, 200916 yr When measuring Length of an aero port you add 5 inches to the total of the straight port for a 4" port. Just use multiple 4" aeros. If your doing music use a slot port Spl use aeroports.

July 22, 200916 yr for the sake of good audio ....make your own 8in or bigger ports , just use the search button on this forum and get some pvc ... I think there is a self made 5inch port in my buildlog , works like a charm .
