Posted July 3, 200916 yr What design is better a 4th order ported box or a 4th order passive radiator box with a one to one ratio (passive to active). The radiator seems to have so many more advantages... so why does everyone have ported boxes?? looking for some ideas and opinions on this, might redo my box soon.
July 3, 200916 yr umm i think your a little unsure what your comparing... there is a forth order bandpass and a standard ported box.. i think that is what your thinking of and if so the most obivious reason is space
July 3, 200916 yr Author I was just reading this articleHERE thats what they label the two as, was just wondering why we all don't use this set up, because you can tune the thing on the fly with no rebuilding of boxes

July 4, 200916 yr It takes more knowledge to integrate a passive radiator as you have to compute the mass of the radiator for tuning. Very comparable to a ported enclosure but without port noise and a slightly steeper roll off. Considering in a car port noise is generally not an issue the only advantage it buys you is that you don't need a long ass port.
