May 8, 200520 yr A buddy of mine is restoring his old Land Rover Defender 90...it originally was in Spain, or so he thinks...because he keeps finding 30-year old Spanish coins inside of it Old 4x4's are very fun.
May 8, 200520 yr For Supa...ass shot of an FJ40:*snipped*cargo area with original jump seats...*snipped*But, if you really want to go places...for a while, I was considering one of these: http://www.coldwarremarketing.com/images/5751827.jpg - a '75 Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer. Front and rear diff locks standard, very high ground clearance, 24V electrical system, blah blah. One of the ultimate offroad vehicles ever made - and you can get one for really cheap. Like $15k cheap.Along similar lines, http://www.coldwarremarketing.com/images/ym.jpg - a Mercedes Unimog 404...probably a better offroading vehicles than the Pinz, but it's really underpowered stock - people report that they can barely make it up hills and the top speed on the highway is only around 50mph. But they can do some crazy things on a trail...Hummer performance for the price of a Civic.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Jump seats..those suck !That MB looks hideous and non functional, the Steyr-puch Pinzgauer looks cool
May 8, 200520 yr Yeah the 'Mog is limited pretty much to off road. 82 HP for a six thousand pound vehicle doesn't get you anywhere quick. The Pinz is underpowered as well, but it's a lighter frame and has the gearing for higher speeds. Unimogs have crazy lower "crawling" gears though...if you have a cliff you really need to get up.I might buy a Pinz instead of the 'Yota if I can find a clean/restored one...much more of a pain to buy parts for it, though. Everything pretty much needs to be imported.
