May 7, 200520 yr To my understanding if you want to get over 14 or 15 volts you will need a seperate charging system so as not to fry the existing electronics in your car. Nick or Ryan would be the prople to ask. I will do some research and post what I find.
May 7, 200520 yr batteries wired in series will do it. But I think you then need to get an alt that charges at that voltage as well.Hydraulic lifts use batteries wired in series to obtain crazy voltage amounts.
May 7, 200520 yr For just burping, I would go with a multiple battery series/parallel setup. If looking to integrate this into the current vehicle, well, it can be done, but not worth the trouble IMO. You would need either a separate charging system for each electrical system and/or some form of isolation between the two. The common electronics on your vehicle will not adapt well to voltages above 15V. And that is pushing it.
May 7, 200520 yr What ryan said.Wire them series'd for burps, independant of the car's system. then charge with an external charger. OR You could rewire them to parrellel to charge off alt.For daily? Parrellel them female dogs to 12vdc. 24vdc NOT worht it.
May 7, 200520 yr ^^^Turbos maybe hard to get, because they are soo backed up, and may be going out of business from what I hear.
May 9, 200520 yr Author hmmm, do they make any diodes that would sustain that much?Because a diode basiclly lets voltage run through it but acts as a short coming back out of it. So i could put the diode in between the two batteries.to keep the excess voltage from going back into the cars electrical system. When i drove my soon to be navigator, it read that it was ruunning at 16-7 volts. also wouldn't running another batt in parallel for daily just give me more time to run my amp wt the car off?
May 9, 200520 yr also wouldn't running another batt in parallel for daily just give me more time to run my amp wt the car off?in a sense, yeah....same voltage, double the amperage (reserve capacity) IIRC...wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

May 9, 200520 yr They do make diodes that would handle what you need, however, their size would not make them feasible for an application such as this. IMO, this is just a waste of time unless you are competing. As for the Navigator, be aware of that voltage guage as many of Ford Motor COmpany's guages are slightly off. Put a meter on it to see where you're really running. THe voltage regulator should NOT be putting out anymore than 15.1 volts. If it is, you have a problem.

With adding the diode, I would think that it would heat up with it traping the extra. Like I stated I am asking. Help me learn too.

LoL - I thought You were talking about a straight parrellel setup, sorry.Yes, You are right... You have to run a diode or resistor that's rated for (or series of them to achieve total rating) the amperage & voltage.
