Posted August 1, 200916 yr im running a power acoustik 3000 watt mono amp. i'm using 4awg pwr cable and ground.stock alt. i just pulled out my 2 12" power acoustik mofos that i was running and put in a fully loaded 18" fi btl.well anyways when i first hooked everything up it was working fine for 5 mins. then i started blowing fuses in the power cable. i checked everything for shorts, and if anything was grounding out. everything seems fine. even if i dont connect the sub to the amp the fuse still blows. whats causing this? is it because i need thicker power and ground cable?
August 1, 200916 yr You need a new amp, or get it repaired. Make sure you have the 12V wire on the positive and not the ground as well. Does it blow even with the amp off? If it does, you have a dead short somewhere. Could be in the amp, or the wire. If it only does it when the amp turns on, then the amp is toast.
August 1, 200916 yr what voice coil configuration did you get with the sub? How is it wired to the amp? But if it does it with the sub not connected, tirefryer's right and your amp is likely toast unless your power wire is cut a little somewhere and grounding out to metal in the car.
August 1, 200916 yr Author i didnt think it was the amp that was blown because it turned on for a second or 2. its dual voice coil and its bridged. the sub isnt connected and the fuse still blows. i'm gonna take a closer look at the power wire.

Model numbers of amp and sub, voice coil impedance, and whether the voice coils were wired in series or parallel would be more helpful.
