I have tried to read as much as possible to educate my self on the power needed to feed my 1000 watt peak system. It seems like the wisest first step would be to upgrade my alternator, then add a second deep cycle battery with a high ah rating and enough amps to supply the power. I have searched for high amp alternators for my 1991 omc ford 2.3 liter ford engine but I am told they dont exist. One person sugested haveing it worked on by a alternator shop and having them install a higher output kit . I would love to have a separate battery or two that I charge in between boat trips dedicated specificlly for the audio and leave the boat operating system alone. TO play my system fairly loud for several hours apparently would require an extensive bank of batteries and a money tree. Mine is picked clean and dying. The Power aocustics cap cell makes some pretty impressive claims about solving all my needs. Any thoughts? Would I still need a relay? Would I be able to charge it and primary battery with a on board conditioning charger like the pro sport chargers.

Caps are a waste and won't help your power situation at all.

You say 1000 watts peak, what are the amplifier's model numbers and actual RMS figures? What is the alternator amperage output on the engine?

Jensen power 760s :Power Output: 60 watts RMS X 4 channels into 4-ohms @ < 1% THD+N

Signal to Noise Ratio: 100dBA below reference (Reference: 1 watt, 4-ohms)

Additional Power Output:

80 watts RMS X 4 channels into 2-ohms @ < 1% THD+N

155 watts RMS X 2 channels (Bridged Stereo) into 4-ohms @ < 1% THD+N

The alternator out put is 55 amps.

If that's your only amplifier, honestly I don't see a need in getting a larger alternator. That amp is only going to draw 20 amps.
