August 15, 200916 yr I just need the basic rundown, what kind of materials, (do I just go to Homedepot and ask for resin??) how to apply it??thanks!all you need is resin, resin hardener (normally comes with the resin), it's just a two part process... if your going to use mat then of course you'll need that too.IMO. resin by itself is fairly usless... it'll make it nice and smooth if you pool the resin, I personally don't resin a box just to resin it (other than the port "flange" so it can be painted more easily-I feel it's a waste of time and money just to add resin to smooth it out.. I Use fiberglass mat on the seams (the thick chop mat) for added strength.
August 15, 200916 yr resin isn't used to brace a box or to add strength at all.In competition, resin is used for 2 things-1 - to fill in the small holes of the MDF to prevent air leaks2 - as a very slick surface. The slick surface allows a small increase in pressure as well.
