I just hooked up a rf t40001bd amp in my car, the amp is ran by 3 stinger sp1000 batteries and a 250 amp alt. I played it for a good 40 minutes I than went out to listen to it again and pop the amp smoked and the fuse discolored (but never popped... not sure wat else Im scared to put another amp in... Any help would be appreciated

I'm not familiar with amp internals but you have the batts wired in parallel right? All + together and all - together?

maybe something came loose and got grounded

Damn dude that sucks. Look over the wiring like hdrox88 said and then look it over again to make sure. Shit Id be trippin too.

I checked the battery terminal to make sure and they are hooked up the right way and they are I checked volts and it shows 14.5 wen car is runnin, I didnt see anything ground any where I about to pull it all..

Was there an audible pop from the amp itself? If you are not worried about any warranty you could open her up and see if anything looks out of the norm.

The amp itself made a big pop I had trunk open wen It happened, Then it had smoke billowing out of the fan holes.

Smoke...billowing...oh shit. That never sounds good. Thats definately a problem. Probably be sending that in for repair or hopefully a warr claim.

Without opening it up, it could and very well be the FETs or the power supply that blew.

How? excessive current... fuse should pop though... excessive current from low voltage scenario..

Playing for 40 minutes... That can \will heatup the alt and eventually start to decrease it's output capability. Is it possible that the alt's voltage started to drop too low when car was on and pulling all current directly from batt only and eventually dipped too low and caused a low voltage scenario which in turn rushed in too much current inside the amp causing things to blow? It's definitely possible...

I would invest in a low voltage shut-off switch.

I have one like it. Anything below 12.5v, whatever is connected to it will immediately shut off until voltage rises above 12.5v.

well, i was hoping nobody directly would ask because i've been hearin that they've been "phasing out" of the car audio world...
