Posted May 19, 200520 yr I have a 99 mustang with a 12 D2. Right now it is in a prefab box that came out to 1.56 cubes before displacement. I am very happy with this setup but I think it could be better. I want increbible output with the best sound quality. Would it be advantagious to get a new box built even if I stayed sealed? I am worried that I box around 2.0 cf tuned to about 28 hz is going to be too big to fit in my tiny little mustang trunk. Should I stick with the box I have or would I benifit from a new box? Any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated. Thanks
May 19, 200520 yr The install is what makes the product work best Prefab= junkChanging the enclosure is probably going to make it that much better
May 19, 200520 yr Many things to consider here. The SN95s trunk is $HIT. The ackward shapes make it pretty much impossible to get any decent sized enclosure in/out of the opening. First off, do you have the Mach audio system? Are you willing to remove the backseat in order to fit a new enclosure in the trunk?Do you need access to your spare? How much trunk room do you need? What types of music do you listen to?How are you powering the Driver? Answer these questions and we'll be better able to help you out.
May 19, 200520 yr Author I don't have the mach system. I don't even have rear speakers in the car. I would rather not take the rear seat out because I would prefer to be able to get it in and out. I still have the spare tire in the car so access to it would be nice. I have a set of golf clubs that take up the front section of the trunk but other than that I do not use it. I listen to all types of music, anything from metal to rap to some techno. I am using a Memphis 1000D to power the driver but changing the amp is another consideration. Just not too sure what I would get to replace it.
May 19, 200520 yr I would suggest staying with your current enclosure size then. You could go with a custom fiberglass enclosure, but do you have the time/knowledge/skill to do it? The only option you have for a vented enclosure would be to increase the depth which will make it difficult getting the enclosure in/out of the trunk. You can also go with an external vent, but that could be cumbersome and annoying. How is the sub placed now? Is it facing the front or rear? Where are your crossover points? Does the enclosure have any acoustical stuffing in it?
May 19, 200520 yr Author I have never done fiberglass and more than likely do not have enough time right now to get into that type of a project. Right now I have the sub facing the rear of the car. It is crossed over at 80Hz and I stuffed the box with some polyfill. Thanks for the help.
