hey guys, i normally dont put aftermarket door speakers in my car bc i have never had anything loud enough to need them lol, but i got an 18" fi q and its pretty loud. my door speakers are in the process of becoming blown lol, so im looking to upgrade...i dont really want to run an amp, would like to just do some speakers, preferably that will fit in the stock location. it will be in a 2003 ford focus zx3. the stock speakers are 6x8 and 3 inches deep. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx guys.

You have a 18" Fi Q and nothing but factory on your front stage? I understand your non liking of words in your music, but c'mon there is a lot more than voice to hear! I would re-think about upping your budget and at least get some aftermarket coaxials and another amp to drive them. It will be night and day difference than what you have now. Just my $0.02!

Since it seems like you are just looking for a simple drop-in install with little upgrading or work, I'd just go to your local retailers and listen to their offerings. Even just 6x8 coaxials (actual 2-ways, not something crazy like 5-ways), may be all you're looking for. But if you're willing to make a small effort and make some baffles to convert your 6x8 hole into a 6.5" hole, that would be a little better.

And last, I wouldn't worry about rear speakers. I always tell people to spend more money on a nice set of speakers for the front, and leave the stock speakers in the back or remove them completely. My 2 cents

focusfanatics.com says that they are 5x7 and 6x8s...maybe 2 mounting holes??? idk lol i havnt had the speakers out yet. thats a good idea, just putting a good front set in. thats what i will do. my budget it probably like 250 bucks...ik its not alot but im in school, and pay insurance on my bike and my car and gas, so at the end of the week i dont have much money left.

if you don't plan on getting an amp, i'd suggest going for infinity references or infinity kappas (you can get them on ebay for VERY cheap!)

I think I saw some used references for sale for like $20 shipped.

If you plan on getting an amp, a sundown SAX 50.4 might suit you well. That and some nice cheap components, you'll even be able to run active with them.

You're on the right way, now !!!

With stock speakers you can't turn the volume up enough, so it's difficult, impossible, to listen to all your bass !!!

Take a (good and new) set of component speakers and an used amp if your budget is too low.

It will be night and day !!!!!!!!

Making baffles is easy. Just take a bit of spare 1/2" wood (or whatever will be thin enough to allow your speaker to fit inside your door panel so that the surround doesn't hit the panel) and cut out a hole for a 6.5" speaker. If you have a jig saw this can be done in about 5 minutes. Then bolt that into the stock mounting holes. You'll then have to drill holes in the mounting baffle for your new speaker. If there are any uneven edges when you mount the new baffle on you may have to go around with some kind of sealant to make sure the wood is airtight against the door metal. Then if you can, cover up the rest of the holes in the door skin with some sound deadener.
