Posted June 4, 200520 yr ok, since fords are a bit**, and the ground and power wire are connected behind the engine, and i would never be able to get them off and back on without taking alot of stuff off, maybe even the engine, can i just cut the original wires, close to where it is connected and just add my new wire to it.Because most people say that if you do the same with an amp it wont make a diffrence, so would it work.nv about clip.
June 4, 200520 yr DO NOT REPLACE THE STOCK WIRES.I know ford suck,... i went through it on my 90 stang and my old cougar.Seriously though, You do not have to REPLACE the wiring. Run Your own. Assuming that You are running larger wire and making clean connections, the juice will flow through Your wires - less resistance / path of least resistance.Make a good connection with your crimp terminal to the wire, put it to Your posts and then to Your ground or positive points. Batt to frame is easiest obviously. Batt to alt can be a pain, but You dont need larger then 2ga usually. Finally, slide a o-ring terminal between Your alt mounting bolt and the bracket/block, bolt goes through the o-ring, then ground that to the frame. Tada!MUUUUCH easier then trying to replace the stock chit, and more effective usually (shorter runs). Its worked for me plent of times in the past.-Nick
June 4, 200520 yr Author i dont really understand batt to frame? Just hook the battery up to? Just not really sure where to hook the positive connection from the batteryi can do the batt to alt, not that badand ground i can just hook that up to whatever ground is closest right. So what do i do with the stock wiring?
June 4, 200520 yr Author ok, i think i got it.I'm just going to keep the starter wires the same and hook them to the side post of the batt.then for the top post bigger ground, and bigger pow. to the alt.Why do i need a bigger wire going to the starter?
June 7, 200520 yr Started shouldnt have anything to do with big 3. Batt - to closest main frame piece. Positive post on alt to positive post on batt. Alt bracket to closest frame piece. Leave all stock woring and just place your new ring terminals on top of exisiting.
