Hello, i've been looking around on these forums trying to find a decent 5.25 component set. I found a guy that decided about the dreamline and have heard people praise these before as well (people seem to really enjoy rainbow).

I will be unable to make my own kicks(no faith in myself), and do not have anyway to have them made by someone else near me (sucks). I realize putting these speakers in kicks are going to be my best option of placement. So therefore i'm going to have to go with q-forms ( i will be putting sound deadening in them, i heard it helps ) and the max they can hold is about a 5.25. The speakers i put in them will also need to work well IB, obviously. I will be powering these with about 100w a peice.

I hate to make the compromise of using a 5.25 instead of a 6.5. I really want some good midabass out of these, but later on down the road i might put some dedicated midbass speakers in the doors.

Don't think that 5.25's can't have midbass. I've heard some 5.25's that have more midbass than most people's 6.5's. It's all in the setup, installation and tuning.

What's your budget? Rainbow's a good option. As is Boston Acoustics, Image Dynamics, DLS, AVI, etc. Also, Memphis Sync's. Heard the Sync's in audiolife's truck.....midbass on those things is pretty crazy.

i'm looking to spend under 200. Installation is just going to be IB in the q-form kicks with some sound deadening. I know thats not the ideal enviroment, so i just needed some comps that'll work well in that type of install.

I just got a set of the pro 4" Rainbows to run with a dedicated midbass, but for 5 years I ran 2 5.25's (MB Quarts) in each door of my Nissan truck and the midbass was excellent. I have yet to hear how my new Rainbows sound , but will keep ya posted though . From what I have read and heard on these boards, you won't be disappointed with them. They should sound pretty good in the Q-Forms.

I'm just assuming the dreamlines will sound better then my Infinity kappa coax's. I haven't heard much if they work well outside of a sealed an enclosure though.

I ran Quarts for years, switched to Focal a few months ago, but after a lot of reading decided to try out Rainbows, just gotta get some midbasses and drop it all in. The Avatar is strange, it is one of the many types of fish I raise, my other expensive habit

Where do you think your going to get your rainbows? These suckers seem hard to find. I tried speedsound.com and they had no Dream line series.

They are sittin in my garage Picked them up a few weeks back from a distributer that was dropping the line. The only thing he had in the pro series was the 4" component set, so I took them (at a great price) to try out. I am getting everything together to install at once. Monday I pick up my new Eclipse 8455, bought the sirius box for it today. Thursday should bring my new alternator to boost the electrical system a little (250 amps), just down to figuring out which midbasses to use and getting a very high SQ 4 or 6 channel amp for the front stage. Will be posting a lot of pics when I redo the truck.

I wouldn't go that far.... I am still very undecided on the 6" midbasses, and torn between old school (adcom), high end (sinfoni or audison), or holding out for Zed's 6 channel coming out this fall to solve the front stage dilema. There are waaaaay tooo many choices for my little noggin.

Do you think it would be best to pick up a good 6.5 and just put it in my doors? How bad would that affect imaging not having it in a kick?

It depends if the woofer has good off axis response.

Is there any way you could do some sort of fiberglass in the door ?

Shure you can get 5 1/4, but 6 1/2 has that much more midbass...

Where are you located? There's plenty of help available nationwide. Hell, I think you CAN do them yourself. There's enough resources just here alone to educate yourself enough on the matter.

As for the Q-logic panels, I have yet to see an enlosed pair and running them with an open back is going to do nothing for good response. It's a cancellation nightmare at your feet.

i bought q-logic kicks and they were horrible even after i strengthened them with fb. the response and output were horrible.

making kicks is pretty easy and a lot better than the prefab crap, it's just intimidating if u havent done it b4. i highly recommend you try it yourself over buying q-logics.

for the $100+ they cost, you'd be better off making your own for cheaper and have em sound a lot better.

$100 in fiberglass supplies could get you a set of NICE kick panels or door pods.

Normally, you will need to aim the tweeters and mids at different angles. I suggest making up some baffles, get some hotglue, and velcro strips.

Then... set up the baffles in different arrangements until you find the setup that sounds the best to you. Forget about the lack of bass, etc. Listen for the imaging, find some vocal only tracks to test with.

Dont have the " ahh crap, i gotta do that" attitude.

This will be an experience that is worth while.

Most people tend to take pride in things they have made themselves.

using the pre-existing kicks isnt a bad idea, just as long as u strengthen that up. stretching fleece is cake. just make sure whatever comps you get are suitable for sealed pods.

You could make some killer pods man...

Cut out the grill...then you will see how much room you have.

If you followed the contour of the door from the door pocket up to the top of the grill that would be nice.

There is definetly room for door pods in there
