Posted April 23, 201015 yr I have read a lot on the subject, but I can't get a final answer.Like a lot of people in my country (we have small cars), I have limited space in my trunk, but still want to use a ported box.I've read that round ports can make me save space. But I don't understand how. The same rules should apply : 12-16 sq inch of port area per ch ft.What can I expect for a 3.5 cu ft box ? I would like to make a smaller box so that my amps can breathe Thanks
April 23, 201015 yr Actual port wall displacement is smaller with round ports compared to slot ports but it will depend on the application. Using a flared round port / aeroport is going to help decrease port air velocity, meaning you can use less port area than when using a slot port.
April 23, 201015 yr Author Ok I got it !But what is the rule ? I can use less port area, but how much less ?And How to choose from 1 port, 2 ports,...?Maybe someone can post a link where I can find all the info I need. Thanks Adrian
April 23, 201015 yr How much port area you need will depend on:Driver size/parametersHow much power you will runTuning frequencyType of port usedNotice I did not say anything about using box volume to determine port area If you want the true required port area for the port to function 100% as it should, you can use this:PORT Size Calculations and Formulas for WOOFER and Subwoofer BOXESBut I will warn you, it will ask for a big port. You can get away with less in a car, and even less if you use a flared port. . .Is this for the Xcon 15 and SAZ1500 mentioned in you signature?Brian

I would like to try a box with aeroport, if it can be smaller than my actual one : 3.5 ft3 net @ 32 hz. In my country, people are afraid of big box in their small trunk !(This is still me, it's my mobile account) Edited April 23, 201015 yr by Notorious from Martinique
