Just like the title says, what is the best way to splice a wire? Solder? If so what kind? How about some sort of crimp thingamabob?

Solder, and tape it. Or, if you can, cut the original wire, and solder the three wires together, and heatshrink it. Type of Solder? Normal everyday resin-cored 65/35, get the thinner stuff though.

Scotch locks... junk.

or those nifty little inline splicing thingies...and heatshrink over it for insulation.

I've always soldered and 'shrinked all my wire splices.

Who here has spliced above 4 guage?  LOL

I've spliced 750kcmil. It's about the equivalent of 5 or 6 1/0 cables.

Speaking of, now that I'm back on my old job, I have to take some pictures of some LARGE cable for you guys!

how large cables???

i bet its those power line cables

but photos are always welcomed by me

I use solder and electrical tape (good 3M electrical tape).

Or if it's for small ass chit, like HU wires...I use 3M Gel Splices...I have about 1million of them...literally.

I have.

1/0- 1/0

Its called a barrel splice ;)

Normally i just use crimp/butt splices.

They are cheap and quick.

Of course it is, but not a typical overhead cable. Those are highvoltage cables. Highvoltage cables are relatively small as they don't carry much current. I'll have some pics tomorrow.

soder, tape and heat shrink. or butt conectors and heat shrink. of just butt conectors.
