Posted August 19, 200520 yr Just like the title says, what is the best way to splice a wire? Solder? If so what kind? How about some sort of crimp thingamabob?

August 19, 200520 yr or those nifty little inline splicing thingies...and heatshrink over it for insulation.I've always soldered and 'shrinked all my wire splices.
August 19, 200520 yr Who here has spliced above 4 guage? LOLI've spliced 750kcmil. It's about the equivalent of 5 or 6 1/0 cables. Speaking of, now that I'm back on my old job, I have to take some pictures of some LARGE cable for you guys!

August 20, 200520 yr I use solder and electrical tape (good 3M electrical tape). Or if it's for small ass chit, like HU wires...I use 3M Gel Splices...I have about 1million of them...literally.NG

August 21, 200520 yr how large cables???i bet its those power line cablesbut photos are always welcomed by meOf course it is, but not a typical overhead cable. Those are highvoltage cables. Highvoltage cables are relatively small as they don't carry much current. I'll have some pics tomorrow.
