when you guys ship subs, what do you use to fill the box with? i lost those cardboard brace things that came in the OG box, so i need some idears. thank ya kindly.

This for the IDmax?

I've been debating this aswell, as I need to ship off one of the 'Maxs I had for sale. Imma thinkin' I'm going to go the internal wood crate design (a la RE Audio)....but I'm not sure yet.

Kid that sent them to me just tossed them in a big box with assloads of packing peanuts.....and I can tell you, that is not a good idea. I'm surprised one of them didn't have the magnets busted off or crack/bend a basket.

yea it's for the max. last time i used just newspaper and it actually worked, but i'm not gonna do that this time because it's not always gonna work. may have to make a crate. blah.

What I generally do:

For example: 12" diam. 8" deep sub that weighs 30lbs or more.

**Get a 14x14x12 box, put down a few layers of cardboard -or- a piece of mdf at the bottom.

**Place a few heavy foam bricks, or tightly rolled pieces of cardboard, or even wood blocks along the side edges of the box, effectively making a 'box' around the motor.

**Wrap the sub in bubble wrap and put it in the box.

**fill upto the top with peanuts.

**top it off with a few more pieces (14x14) of heavy cardboard on top.

**Tape it up at every seam with "strapping tape" (it has string run through it).

Every sub that I've shipped has been shipped like this. Well, there were 1 or 2 that I had UPS pack for me, so I can't account for those... but the other 25 have been. Everything from 12" Infinities (20 lbs) to 15" MT's (67lbs).

so far, as far as I know, they've all been alright.

I like the sexy foam rings that were in the cdt box.. I put them all around my neck.

The uber came in a large + thick cardboard box ... encased in foam. It wasn't going anywhere - even with the way some carriers treat packages. Basically a grey bag around the entire sub, then was just filled with (expanding) foam. Was really neat.

If I were to ship a large driver to someone, they'd get it in a wooden crate, and encased in foam. I tend to overpack things though. I'd rather do it right the first time and not take any chances.

Nicks idea is a good one.

My shiva was shipped in that expanding foam bag stuff.

Totally englufs the subwoofer from top to bottom, it wasnt going anywhere.

Well...shipping mine off today.

Decided to go with a double-boxed plan. Sub in a "smaller" box (just a little bigger than the sub itself) wrapped in bubble wrap then surrounded and held in place by foam. That's going to go into a bigger box that's filled with packing peanuts.

Figure that should work good. Sub ain't going nowhere, and there's multiple layers of protection.

I pack my boxes with plenty of "goodies"...:)

Nick didn't get any because I figured teh soon-to-be wifey would get suspicious.

I like goodies.

Its always that lil somethin extra that makes the item that much better
