Posted October 8, 200519 yr As many of you guys know I enjoy testing out new mids in my truck. So far...CDT CL-6, infinity kappa 6.1, kappa perfect 6.1, CDT HD-6, BA pro 6.5, and others not worth mentioning. So now I think its time to test out another pair. I have a limited budget this month so <$300 for the pair of mids. Here are a few of my ideas, if you have suggestions please feel free to make them. Depth isnt a factor, but you must remember they need to be able to play well IB. I have ~75x2@8ohm, ~150x2@4ohm, and ~250-300x2@2ohm.RE XXX 6.5 (2ohm)Adire Extremis (8ohm)Morel HU631 (8ohm)Vifa M18WN19 (4ohm)Dynaudio MW160 (4ohm)Dynaudio MW160GT (4ohm)Dynaudio MW170 (4ohm)

Not "for the price". But simply a great mid. Power hungry though. 75w is probably just barely enough to get it excited. These are the mids used in the infamous "Ology Audio" comp sets.Max Fidelity MF-170-75L/4 http://www.meniscusaudio.com/products/maxfidelity.cfm - Supposed to sound very, very similar to the Dynaudio mids. Be sure to get the High Qts version though for IB installs.Peerless HDS: http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi...04.6470&pid=871 - Great mid. Very highly regarded by most.Peerless Exclusive 7": http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi...4.6470&pid=1949 - Look very, very interesting. Npdang did a review of the 4" I believe. Did very well.
October 9, 200519 yr I'm using Dyn MW160 right now as well as MD100 and the Dyn passive, it really open up the vocal but still lacking on the 'kick', can be good or bad, depends on your liking.

November 2, 200519 yr I placed an order on the Seas Lotus RW 165Was just about to suggest that. Out of all the drivers YOU listed, I think the ONLY ones I would use in an IB application would be the Extremis or Morel.

I have found that my gut feelings tell me to go for the Lotus or Excel...I wanted to try the lotus cause you dont see much on them and cause they were 4ohm...I will update on the install and comparo when they arrive. Next month I may just buy the excel and do a comparo if they beat out the HDs!
November 3, 200519 yr I placed an order on the Seas Lotus RW 165NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11Good choice
November 3, 200519 yr Author What about that new adire midbass ?Sounds like it can pound<{POST_SNAPBACK}>They aren't out yet if I remember correctly.
November 3, 200519 yr Author Crap choice made by a crap person who likes to listen to crap!<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Atleast I now know that you are joking...poopy head
November 5, 200519 yr What about that new adire midbass ?Sounds like it can pound<{POST_SNAPBACK}>They aren't out yet if I remember correctly.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I believe he's talking about these surplus drivers: http://forum.soundillusions.net/showthread.php?t=56323But IMO I would choose the Extremis over that surplus driver as it has more excursion. After all it was designed to out-perform the Revelators and Excel's.
November 5, 200519 yr It wasnt that mid. Some thread about it on ca.com, prototype thing3 surplus drivers cost as much as 1 extremis, they definetly have the advantage in output
November 5, 200519 yr Ah, I see what he is talking about now. Those actually aren't "Adire" drivers. Those are drivers Adire is designing for an OEM client.
March 21, 200817 yr What pair of mids suggested in this trend would integrate nicely with a pair of morel supremo tweeters. Probably crossing them around 2200.
March 21, 200817 yr After hearing them, I'd have to recommend the Hybrid L3's, the L4's potentially too if they're anything like them...if you're looking for a cone mid anyway.
