That's fucked up. What's the voltage on the battery in the rear with the car off, at idle, with amp at full tilt?
November 9, 201014 yr I'm guessing it's a clipped signal in that song, or an issue with the recording. Play it somewhere else and see what happens.
November 9, 201014 yr Author 2volts at the amp? That's fucked up. What's the voltage on the battery in the rear with the car off, at idle, with amp at full tilt?I'm way to burnt to continue today and it's dark now.I'll check them all tomorrow and will get back. Can anyone try the song I posted above and see if it does it on your system?I'd appreciate any feedback of someone who tried it.Again it's the ONLY song that it does this too.I have plenty of songs that play through EXCEPT this one song. Thanks
November 9, 201014 yr Author I'm guessing it's a clipped signal in that song, or an issue with the recording. Play it somewhere else and see what happens. It plays fine in my wife's car.It also plays fine in my HT setup. This song shakes the sh*t out of my house!
November 9, 201014 yr You just said it plays fine on your wifes car and your HT, so there's no reason for anyone else to try it. And even so, whether I try it or not, it'll play, may have clipped signals...So does your amp shut off? Go into protect mode? Please be more specific besides "bass cutting out".If your voltage really is 2v at your amp, then you have a much bigger problem then not being able to play a single song.I'll check back tomorrow when you post your battery voltage. Oh and when you said the battery is in the trunk, your referring to it being a second battery right? So whats your starting battery and your secondary battery model #'s?
November 9, 201014 yr How is your amps settings configured? Gain, bass boost, etc? Mind taking a picture? If the amp is reading 2 volts, I would NOT even turn your system on. You're going to toast your amplifier.I'm honestly surprised it's even playing. Are you sure you measured right? Also, you're playing a test tone for a minute straight at full tilt? That's generally not a good idea and can damage your subs.
November 10, 201014 yr Author Guys,First of all thanks for your valued input and your help.I really appreciate it.Let me answer to the best I can on your questions.Car is Genesis V8 with tech package.EVERYTHING is stock (1 battery and it's in the trunk)Nothing added except my amp and sub. Here's what happens when I play that 1 song:Volume at 10/35, song plays greatVolume at 20/35, bass is gone...when bass is gone bring volume back to 10 and bass comes back on.I can play the 30hz test tone at 20/35 and never cuts-off. (volume at 10 and up there's no difference in my sub output volume with that file)I can play any other song at 26/35 with no problem whatsoever.Amp setting:Gain at around 1 oclock when connected at 4 ohms (that's how it's connected now)Gain at around 12 oclock when it was connected at 1 ohm (more output this way)Subsonic filter onHPF all the way down leftLPF at approx. 11 oclockIntelliQ completely off to the left - no gainI will take measurements tomorrow and post.Doing some quick tests today, I had 14.X voltage when car was idilingI had 12.x when in acc mode - car not running.I need to retake the voltage when blasting the song and will take the voltage again with the 30hz file playing too. (Is this OK?)again thanks for your help guys. Edited November 10, 201014 yr by DD51
November 10, 201014 yr Author Oh just got back from work and had a chance to take the following:Voltage measured on the amp terminals:car on battery - (Engine off) 12.21volts with music playing at 10/35 volumeEngine on - 14.71 volts with music playing at 10/35 volume.Playing a DVD-A with the volume at 24/35 lowest i saw was 14.28volts. (After changing fuse)Playing the same song that's mentioned above:Volume at 24/35 Blasting the sub voltage dropped to 14.25volts, then, sub completely stopped working, reading was now at a constant 14.61volts.Stayed like that for 30 seconds, then, (while song was still playing), I went and dropped volume to 10 and sub came right back on.During this whole time:My amp always remained on...Green LED (POWER) was always onRed LED (PROTECT) never came on.Yellow LED (ESP INDICATOR) was always on (no idea what this is)Could there be something wrong with this one song?IS there something wrong with my system? Why does it play fine in my wife's car and my Home theater system?I'm going to have to try this song again really loud in my wife's car and on my HT.This is very frustrating!I think I'll just trash this one song.
November 10, 201014 yr you can try downloading the same song from a different source and make sure its excellent quality
November 10, 201014 yr So any idea why you posted 2v before and now your posting everything above 14v with car at idle.Sounds like your electrical is good if it's never dropping below 14 Also, If your play the 30hz test tone at volume10 and there's not output difference vs volume20 then you may have your gain set too high.Did you set the gain by ear?
November 11, 201014 yr Author So any idea why you posted 2v before and now your posting everything above 14v with car at idle.Sounds like your electrical is good if it's never dropping below 14 Also, If your play the 30hz test tone at volume10 and there's not output difference vs volume20 then you may have your gain set too high.Did you set the gain by ear?It did drop to 2 volts...I swear! What I did is that I check the inline fuse (on the positive wire) when I pulled it out it came apart.I think it probably wasn't making a good connection.Went to a local car shop and bought a new fuse... put it in and took the measurements today. When I adjusted (months ago) my amp I followed a tutorial about playing a 40hz tone and adjusting the voltage of the speaker terminals.I forget where I saw this and what the values were but I know I followed it to a tee.I since moved the gain upwards but just a tad.I had then followed the 1ohm voltage rating and now have my sub connected in series at 4 ohms.My gain was at around 12 and have now set it at 1 o'clock but at 4 ohm load.I don't think it's too high.Anyhoot,Thanks all for your help/guidance with this but I'll just throw that song in the garbage and listen to the 1000's of other songs I have.I'm sorry for all the newbie stuff from me and appreciate everything you guys wrote for me.I'm 46 years old and getting too old for this sh*t.Can't help it I just love music and good bass. Have so for over 30 years now.Sincere thanks
November 11, 201014 yr I think it was 2v drop at the amp. The 14v was taken at the battery. To me it just sounds like gains are set too high.
