Posted February 15, 201114 yr Hey guys i just got a new Lexus is250 and planning on starting my system with adding a sub. i will be making a custom box for what ever i decide on. would like opinions on some decisions. i am attempting to stay with the SQ range i like a little volume but im sure any upgrade will give me the sound i am looking for in that respect.Sub choices so far:fi q10aa Chaos 102x kicker l7 8amp choices:kicker IX1000.1Possiably a mcintosh mcc302 (dont know if the money would be worth it) or if there is a better priced alternativerelaly need help here ok now heres the limits guys im not rich but i will spend anything for a good setup.. i will be devoting more to the front stage later on as i said earlier starting with sub. i want to avoid adding a second battery or alternator. i have been looking at some sundown amps yet all seem to recommend batteries and alt's dont really want that.
February 15, 201114 yr I would look into a sub amp combo on ssa store with a sundown/ Icon or xcon setup
February 15, 201114 yr Are you going ported or sealed? Remember that you can't "underpowered" a sub. Just because you buy a 1000 watt sub doesn't mean it needs that much power to sound good. Also remember box size and power handling are related. So if you can spare some room for a bigger box, your sub can be happier with less power. You said that you will spend whatever you have to, to have good sound. Batteries aren't that expensive. And you can always build one into or onto your sub box. I have a ported box with two 10's. The subs are in the middle, there's a kerfed port on the left, and on the right is an empty space for my second battery. It's open on the back for access. But when you open the trunk all you see is carpet, subs and port. My amps will mount on top of the box, and I have a carpeted filler panel that trims from the top of the box to the bottom of the rear deck. Hiding the amps from view. Good luck with your decision.

February 15, 201114 yr Get at least a 12" if you want to go sealed.Ported enclosures can sound good if they're built to specs. Don't take a sealed one because you think it's the best/only way to sound good.Take a look at the SSA Icon (or Fi Q, yes it's a good one too), or the SSA Xcon : you will love them, and they like sealed enclosures.I had a 15" Xcon in a 3 ft3 sealed box : it was so nice. But when I put it in a ported box, I could not go back to sealed !!!Good luck
February 15, 201114 yr Author thanks for the oppinion volume is am issue as well that's also why I'm looking at sealed . Ive had large boxes b4 but I want to keep a trunk this time.even with all the fiberglassi could use I would stl be building a rather larger box. I may also try fitting a 12" or perhaps a second 10.
February 15, 201114 yr I know what space problems are ! I had too dowgrade to a 12" sub from a 15" to be safer and have some more room available !Try a 10" ported. You will loose so much with a sealed box.Fi bl or Q, SSA Icon, Sundown SA 8" (can have 2 of them) or 10",...
February 15, 201114 yr Everybody here will tell Sundown Audio amps !(sax 1200 or saz 1000 if you find one)I use them too !But whatever fits your budget : Clarion, Audiopipe, MBQuart, Audioque, for the cheapest. Kicker, MTX, JL Audio,...etcYou should get another amp for your front speakers in the same time : a 2 channels, or a small 4 channel to run bridged on a single set of speakers. Even if you're not changing your speakers at the moment, the current ones will like an amp, and will love to have a HPF on them to take the bass off !
