Posted December 1, 200519 yr I want to do IB in my 1995 Acrua Integra hatchback. I am aware that I need to seal off the front wave from the rear wave but how much so? If you have seen the rear hatch area do you have any ideas how I can acomplish this. I was gonna remove the faux rear deck and put up a wood deck to mount the woofers and then seal off the seat area. But there is the issue of plastic paneling...do I need to remove it all? and then there is the issue of where the deck will touch the hatch. I cannot seal it together because I need to be able to access my trunk. Any ideas?
December 2, 200519 yr I wouldn't even want to attempt it. Best bet is to stick to a regular enclosure. The hassle to pull this off effectively in a hatch is not beneficial IMO. Are you just looking to gain space?
December 2, 200519 yr Author I want dual 12's without losing my trunk. I have already lost half my trunk with a single 12 so I was looking at some options and was hoping this was one. I thought maybe for IB "completey sealed off" actually meant "kinda". #@#$@ it....oh well....$#@%
December 2, 200519 yr I feel for ya, but it's not an undertaking I would want to do. I just don't think it's worth the effort. Seems your best option would be to find another spot for the woofer(s). Personally, I would attemp and IB or custom enclosure door install with some 8s or 10s before trying to create a seal on the hatch area. A wall is a different story though if you're thinking anything in this route.

December 3, 200519 yr Put some 8's in the rear speaker openings. If you made a FG enclosure you could get plenty air space. You can fit your whole arm in that hole, its massive when you remove the paneling. My friend has a 94 teg and his enclosure is only about 9" deep since i made it a wedge. Yet its 2.5ft^3.The 8's in the back panels was another option but the sub was on sale so we went for it.No way in heck are you going to seal that rear area off unless you spend A LOT of time doing so.The rear seats will have to have wood covering them since they fold down, all openings sealed off ( crap ton of expanding foam)The rear hatch will flex up and down which could cause an air leak. You could always just use the rear seats for your enclosure, they suck anyways
December 3, 200519 yr Author No dice I have a kid, I need the rear seats....I think I am just gonna stay with the single 12 and a half a trunk....I just wanted to see if it would be possible. The eights in the rear locations seem kind of intriguing but would a pair of 8's sealed equal a 12" ported?
December 3, 200519 yr I just wanted to see if it would be possible.Oh...it's possible. It'd just be a ton of work, and would require you cutting metal to vent to the outside of the vehicle. but would a pair of 8's sealed equal a 12" ported? Not even close.
December 4, 200519 yr got any space under the rear seat ?you can throw an enclosure there if u do got some space.. with the woofers firinf downwards
December 5, 200519 yr Author Naw, I'm gravy...I'd rather have a half a trunk and a ton of bass then a emptyl trunk and only a little bass...
