Posted May 25, 201114 yr Proud owner of 2 Intel items.... i7 2600k + Intel SSD 160GB ... didn't pay alot either....!!!!One of the very few perks of working where I do... BOOM!!!
May 25, 201114 yr u know, with the OC potential of that chip.. u better be doin some hardcore video transcoding!I recently built my cousin an I5 3.0 or 2.8, can't remember and we put that massive ass HSF on it and i was able to oc it to 4.2ghz safely and stable and we benched it in Everest and it surpassed a stock Q9300 which is my damn chip, lol Quad 2.54ghz..Now, his isn't as fast as mine though since i Oced mine to Q3.4ghz 24\7 but still, I need an I7 on top of a Cuda video card.I do lots of video transcoding and i refuse to do 1080 of 1600p video because 1080p on my system takes 3.5hrs @2hrs of flim so 1600p would be ridiculous...
May 25, 201114 yr WTF is that all that? Only SSDs I know about are FiSolid state hard drives maybe? I think haha. Edited May 25, 201114 yr by ricksi30

Will be going to watercooling on this setup.... If I don't sell it first....
May 25, 201114 yr u should be able to safely oc that ship on air to around 4.7ghz 24/7 watercooling is overrated especially if u are not going to be able to take advantage of the cpu speed and instructions capable
May 25, 201114 yr Author Gah, that was harsh. I know you posted the links, I was just foolin' about.I know... my badd... didn't mean to sound harsh...
May 25, 201114 yr Author u should be able to safely oc that ship on air to around 4.7ghz 24/7 watercooling is overrated especially if u are not going to be able to take advantage of the cpu speed and instructions capableit's funny... i want to be louder in the car... but in the house QUIET is GOLDEN... I will do water cooling for pure noise reduction... Have not had an air setup that was quiet enough...
May 25, 201114 yr have u never had watercooling? If i'm not mistaken, water cooling is louder than your typical high end air systems nowI can find u VERY HIGH CFM air systems with under 20db at max speed, that's very quiet.Watercooling has external fans( which can be quiet) but the pump is not quiet... unless they state it's db rating is ~20db or lower.
May 25, 201114 yr Author All my current fans are Noctua fans... I've researched quite a bit... The problem is the air turbulence coming the the ventilation not the fans themselves... With a good watercooling system and a pump suspended in the case I will here little to almost no noise whatsoever... Hopefully... Last watercooling system I had was louder than my current setup.. But it cooled CPU-GPU-HDD .... so I needed a very high output pump...

I been out of the game kinda, since my Q9550 purchase... lol
May 25, 201114 yr hey, dont feel lonely.. after my Q9300.. i stopped bein in the game til i built my cousins i5, BUT.. this stuff has been out forever basically..www.heatsinkfactory.comIf u have any questions, just let me know. There are plenty of crazy ass HSFs on there but i must warn you.. After fan cost, all good ones are gonna be over $100 shipped.
May 25, 201114 yr Author yes... I'll see which is worth it... Watercooling I have priced out to be just under $250 for just the cpu... But we'll see... Thanks for the link.. Never seen that site before, oddly I like it.... Reminds me of www.frozencpu.com
May 25, 201114 yr Author guess what... they haven't updated the site for socket 1155 ... I now have to read FULL descriptions!! WTF!! lol
May 25, 201114 yr most of the high end HSFs come with every socket adapter on earth all the way back to 775 sometimes, lol
May 25, 201114 yr Author Honestly I do have a Corsair H50 which is pretty quiet.. I can probably purchase a new bracket for it or make one... But I am liking this NOCTUA..
May 25, 201114 yr If you stick to WC on the CPU only you'll be ok.If you also loop(s) the video card(s) into the loop it starts to be a pain in the A** if you need to remove anything from the case. You will need to do some research, if you haven't already, on good low CFM radiator(s) if you want to keep the noise down.I've got an Antec 1200, which I love except for the dust filer access. I did allot of mods to it. I'm running 2- black ice radiators (inside the case) along with 2-8800gt's, north /south bridge and the e8600 @ 4.0 ghz. in the loop. Also 2-Raptor x's in a raid array.I know, it's time for a serious upgrade. I'm going to go with the 2500k sometime soon, as well as a triple monitor setup and ssd's sometime this year. What video card you going to go with? Here's a couple pics, raptor mod and fitting the radiators.
