Posted May 27, 201114 yr I know these pics dont/wont show up here, I have to tweak them at home theater spot, but they work everywhere else so i will post a link to my AVS thread if u want to see the picshttp://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1337645After doing REW sweeps of before the port and after, I realized I was tuned much lower than I thought. Thinking 990 cubic feet realizing 1003 cubic feet (closet door closed, opened it's more like 1040 cubic feet and 4Hz tuning) and from 9Hz to 5Hz, I can't have a title that I can't correct. I have never heard of anyone tuning to 5Hz before, or venting a 1000 plus cubic foot room. So I will leave the build log, post some final pics and REW snapshots in here, and of course now I will do some 5Hz and 6Hz sine waves and distortion plots.... as WinISD shows a VERY narrow SPL increase at tuning, so my 7Hz and 8Hz were out of the port passband giant peak.Thank you Thomas for pointing it out!Final tuning appears to be 6.5HzUnless the laws of physics have changed the tuning is between 9Hz-10Hz. And even that's doubtful because a Radio Shack SPL meter is not accurate test device.Actually, Thomas, if the laws of physics have NOT changed, I am tuned to 5.26Hz. And upon further inspection of the before/after ported plots, it looks like that is correct, more like 5-6Hz, kind sir.room is 9'5" x 12'5" x 8'7" for 1003 cubic feetport is 21.5 x 8.5 22"longPICS REMOVEDThanksPICS REMOVEDThe reason I started with an 8Hz-9Hz guestimate and made it clear we would see, was I initially plotted with the manifold stopping at the subs and simply cutting the door panels out for ports which would have been 2 x 18.25"x8.25" ports 1.5" thick door, .75" MDF, about 2.25" port length. I decided to run the manifold sides all the way down for more strength to support all that weight and to keep the rear wave from simply canceling out the front wave with no port blockage. That left me with the option of putting 2 divider ports for the two insode port walls, making for 2 x 8.25"x18.25" ports 22" long for about a 7Hz-8Hz tune.I decided on the final option, 1 giant port, 5Hz tune.THATS MORE LIKE IT! I did a 5.5Hz tone and the whole house wobbles, ceiling wobbles, fan, the paper in the port actually moves. 7Hz is way too high with this narrow of a peak. 95dB at 8%THD and 104dB @ 31% THDPICS REMOVEDim tuned to 5Hz thats all 5Hz makes the HOUSE wobble! Now the port blows air!
May 27, 201114 yr Author insane in the membrane man!!! dude, I remember when 10Hz-15Hz flopping the ceiling was neat... watching the entire thing just wobble is NUTS! WOTWs was pretty damn sweet before, now it's JAM PACKED! I was supposed to be sacrificing a TON of SPL by tuning this low, more than 10dB and then some, but WOTWs has twice as much content as before, lots of the stuff that was there before is even louder now. So fun!
May 27, 201114 yr I can't imagine how good this sounds... you should move to NJ so that I can bring some popcorn and watch a movie...
May 28, 201114 yr Author Braced the celing and gained 7dB at 6.5Hz! WTF WOW! lolIf you guys ever ready that "Youre kryptonitewhite if...." thread.... I'm going to throw wheels on this sucker and drive it to you guys :-Pcheck that AVS thread for the before/after ceiling bracing snapshots. The ceiling STILL bounces but *only* 1.5" now, expecting more gains after I can run 1 more 2x4 across and 2 more 2X4s up to it :-P
May 30, 201114 yr This shit is banana hammocks!!!! you are a god my friend, i am truly jealous, amazing work 5 STARS!!!!!
June 2, 201114 yr Author This shit is banana hammocks!!!! you are a god my friend, i am truly jealous, amazing work 5 STARS!!!!! thank you sir! I played some more with the feeback destroyer today, I am trying to use it as an LP filter mostly to lower 15Hz on up so that i have a peak from 5Hz-10Hz then roll off a little to 15Hz, a little more to 20Hz, then more to 35Hz, I want 40Hz-50Hz to be a little dip... then slowly creep back up to 63Hz, more to 80Hz, then more to 100Hz to compensate for the 80Hz crossover.... but that keeps getting too messy with all this control the thing has I have it defeated again for now
June 7, 201114 yr Author moved the amp rack so the door opens most of the way, cleared out most of the storage to make it a spare room. Gave up on the EQ for now, IDK what to use for a Q as more experimenting leads to more headache. Never made it to the competition as I had a situation with the 3 batteries and HO alternator. Pretty much done foruming for a while, just popping in for a few updated pics and a vid.new mic location completely changed REW sweeps, basically flat all the way down and no majot dips like the 43Hz, 54Hz, 73Hz, and 6.5Hz dips from before. The EQ was defeated during the flat sweeps.
June 9, 201114 yr Author I dont like most of my vids once I watch them for myself, but I really like this one.Ain't no sunshine And Google is fun sometimes with their daily things they have when they spell "Google" for a special day or anniversary. Guitar.
June 22, 201114 yr Author having some fun while waiting for the 1st set to curedidnt wait long enough but it will work... or will it?
June 25, 201114 yr Author I looked and looked trying to localize a loud rattle... could not find it. As I got closer it would stop. I gave up, then ran sweeps tonight, after boosting 25Hz 3dB it got much worse, it was the ceiling. When I got to the corner of the bed where a ceiling brace runs, it would stop. Got on the bed, would stop. So I just ran a 2nd beam and killed it at 5:24AM How about some 116dB at 6Hz, 122dB at 8.5Hz?
June 26, 201114 yr Author This should keep the manifold from bouncing around so much, and after some weather stripping keep so much air from blowing through
June 26, 201114 yr Author I think I will change the Q on the 20Hz boost, 120, last nite when the phonograph needle touched the turn table I thought it was all infrasonics and it was maxed...any more and damage. But it loks like I lost a ton from 4Hz-14Hz or so, so maybe a lot of it was 15Hz-35Hz. Watching ths subs during sweeps, they done move much at ULF and move a lot around 30 now... I'll tweak some more. The frame didnt help the manifold hopping much, or the "tower abstract" hanging from the wall... but thats all nothing. the ceiling bounce is still terrible and the supports rattle very bad. Were going to run and get some more 2x4s to brace th ceiling some more. Ran some sweeps to 20Hz on repeat to localize it to the ceiling.
June 28, 201114 yr Insane ... makes me want to get started on my home system ... Need to buy a home first ... I'm working on it ...
June 28, 201114 yr Author As if cars and car audio isn't enough, then a home and home audio too? Tell me about it! But it doubles your knowledge and changes your perspectiv and maybe even goals in car audio after while.
June 28, 201114 yr Author With all the boosting I had to have SW set to -12dB, music is much louder than flix so i had to have it turned down for music, especially Bassotronics goodies. So I reset and tried cutting instead. Now I have +16dB at 32Hz, -32dB @ 40Hz, +6dB at 80Hz, and -6dB at 125Hz... this sweep I got to do at -20dB MV and had plenty of room left, sub at 0dB.
June 30, 201114 yr I think this picture belongs in the audio addicts thread. You know you have an audio addiction when.........you use a sub motor as a door stop.
