Posted June 16, 201114 yr I am looking into purchasing a 15" DC level 4 XL or AA Mayhem. If I choose the DC, I have two wiring options. I have a 2400 watt amp at 1 ohm and 1700 at 2 ohms. How much difference does wiring a sub at 2 ohms make vs wiring it at 1 ohm? Would 1700 watts at 2 ohms be enough to get the DC going or should I just stick to 1 ohm?
June 16, 201114 yr Wiring to 2 ohms would provide more efficiency and less current draw... I am assuming you're using a Brutus 2400.1???
June 16, 201114 yr Just for reference.. I am powering a 1700w XCON with a 500 amplifier.. you don't need to feed RMS or close to it for results... In my sealed application it is almost moving the same amount of air as my ICON ported... almost!!
June 16, 201114 yr Author So which setup would be the better route? 2 ohms or 1 ohm for the lvl 4XL? Or mayhem? How big of an alt would I need for 2400 watts? Or alt and battery
June 16, 201114 yr Some people say stock alt and 2 batteries are good enough up to 3k... It's all depending on how "your" car handles the draw... You'd have to install to find out...Now setup wise... what are you looking for? music type? give some more info pls...
June 16, 201114 yr Author I listen to rap mostly and occasional rock. I like deep low notes which is why I wanna do a 15. I just don't know what the difference in sound would be between 1 ohm and 2 ohm wiring. I'm looking into getting a 2011 scion tC or another car around that size
June 16, 201114 yr there wouldn't be a difference in "sound" between those impedances... power draw and output yes... where did you hear that a 15" would go lower? If you had equivalent models in 12" and 15" in similar spec'd enclosures then you might perceive a loudness difference but none in the "lows" ...
June 16, 201114 yr Author Well I've tried to look up certain things and I've read that 15's can drop lower than 12's and 18's drop lower than 15's. I'm kinda new at all this I've only had one system before and it got destroyed in a wreck (two RE SX12's) but to keep costs down I'm just gonna go with a 15. And I've read that wiring 2 ohm gives a righter bass response. I would love some clarification on things things so I'm pretty much learning as I ask new questions lol but what do you mean by "output" in your last post?
June 16, 201114 yr Author I love SQ but I want to bump pretty hard as well. I like feeling it in my ears lol and having blurred vision when they're really goin! But what would be the difference in a 15 and a 12 besides more cone area?
June 16, 201114 yr slightly more output meaning for argument sake 'volume' ... But I don't think it'd be too noticeable... I'd say you should look more into your research.. Whatever you've read was misleading you somewhat... If you want to do 15" then 15" it is... But if you want ear shaking bass then you'll most likely want to port it.... The enclosure will get pretty damn big once you do that.. But I think a tc or similar sized vehicle could accommodate that..Also, wiring configurations do not affect sound or make things "tighter"... like I was saying, you haven't researched alot it seems and the little you did was most likely so generic and misleading you are saying these things... Anyway, I'd go for 2 ohms because of less current draw and heat...Aside from that, please look through the past threads of the subwoofer section to get some more information... HERE
