I think that I might run into some electrical problems in my new system that I'm currently putting together. I want to try and avoid it if I can to save money.

I drive a 2000 Jetta VR6, it has a 120a stock alternator and this is my current battery

My head unit is a Kenwood KDC-248u

4- Memphis PR 6.5's components in the doors

My amp is an AQ1200d and this is where my first question comes in.

I am looking at either getting 1 12 Icon, 1 15 Icon, or 1 12 Xcon. My question is should I play it safe and run them at 2ohms using ~870 watts or 1ohm using ~1200 watts. How much of a difference will there be in the sound and will it even avoid any electrical problems.

My next question if there is any electrical problems what should I do first.

Should I do the Big 3, replace stock battery, replace stock alternator, get a 1 farad cap, or get a back up battery?

Thanks

you should do the Big 3 and nothing else..

Monitor your system the way you play it and that will determine where and how your voltage and battery capacity is effected..

What are your thoughts on how much power i should give them?

well.. u shouldnt ask me since i'm competitor biased and don't daily my stuff like other people do...

I ran 6 3500ds on stock alternator and 2 batteries for a few months in my scion...

My definition of daily is on very low power so electrical system upgrades for me daily is almost pointless.

Like i said, it's all in how you play it.

Like they said do the big 3 and then monitor your voltage. I've got a SAX-1200 on stock electrical and have been monitoring and have been fine so far, but that's my car and yours can and most likely will be different. Your listening habits will have a huge affect on your voltage

Yea I plan on doing the big 3 but I am scared to do it myself because the alternator is in the most obnoxious place in my car.

It will be alot cheaper for you to do it, than to have a shop do it for you.

Just dedicate a day off to get it done, it shouldn't take that long.

Yea I really want to do it but with my abilities it is nearly impossible because the alternator is entirely under my engine and I can barely see a glimpse of it because it is hidden so well. Foreign cars ftw right...

Climb underneath and hook it up from under the car! You can find a sweet spot and get it done. If anything, do any part of the big 3 you can do, it doesn't have to be all 3.
