I just bought a 15" FI BLT sub from a buddy, and was playing it in my tahoe today when the tahoe filled with some and noticed the sub was on fire..... we put it out with a water hose before it burned anything else my question is will recone fix it? or is there more that has to be done?? :-(

wow caught on fire?? Iv heard of people smokin them with power sockets but never caught on fire with amp power. Im thinking your friend sold you a busted btl... what were you running to it and how did you have it wired up? whats your electrical consist of

well ive got a AQ 3500 watt amp, rockford fosgate capacitor and 0 gauge wire kit. i think that the back of the sub on the speaker wire was wired wrong, the positive on one side the sub also was hooked into the negitive on the other side of the sub and the negative on one side went straight to the amp which left the other positive on the back of the sub not hooked up to anything at all. they told me "it was on fire because the way it was hooked up on the back of the sub was like taking a car battery and hooking it up back wards" or like "grounding it out"

sheesh, If i were you next time id make sure everything is wired up properly because those subs arnt cheap. Go to 12volt.com and they have a wiring diagram to show you what you need to do.

yea.. i know it i only played the sub for about 10 mins since ive owned it.... its pretty upsetting but ill defiantly check that site out, so will recone really fix my sub??

cant really tell until you know what kinda damage it did, if the fire was inside the motor it coulda fried something, if it was just the coils and cone you could get a recone, id take it to someone and have it checked out, or you can send it into fi and see what they can do for you, try contacting nick at ficaraudio.com
