Sorry to hear about the Sub crashing ... Hope everything works out for the best ...

Instead of having to look it up myself, what are the basics with them... 3/4" or 1" slugs? 3 or 4? Diameter? Coul... 3" or 4"? Flat copper... 4 layer or 8 layer? What is the Bl on these badboys... I'm no wizz with Thiele/Small but just wondering overall motor strength. I assume several stiff spiders... 9" or larger on a TC Sounds basket?

Depends on which version it is, I'm not sure if the older one came with a quad coil or not.

The last versions have a DD/AQ stylish basket, 4inch coil, not sure of actually motor specs other than that.

I just know they sure aren't anything special, no offense to anybody that owns one.

I looked at the new X3's, and those look super cheap. Looks like a Vibe or Lanzar sub(can't exactly remember), with the ribbed surround and logo on dustcap. A few companies sub's can pull off ribbed surround(most seem to be rubber), but these seem to have foam. Turned me off, even thought I was never turned on. I hope they serve more of a purpose than looks, because they really kill any hope it might of had.

yup, I googled it and there's 2 versions! As if it wasn't retarded enough back in the day when the 15" was completely different from the 18"...freakin headache... now there's old version 15, old version 18, new 15, and new 18... I think everyone on this thread has the right idea... fuck ss, who cares :-P

I know 2 people with the quad coil model in 18" : both blew !

I think they bought this sub because of the 10 000 watts rms rating ! They are both very disappointed now !

Just to let you know the XXX price here : 1 200 €, about $ 1600 !!!!!!!!!!!

There isn't a sub made that can handle 10KW continuos.

Your buddy blew the sub because he applied too much power. It had nothing to do with clipping, gain settings or anything else.

Your buddy will probably blow most any other sub he buys...

He needs more subs if he wants the same volume level, simple as that.

You must be right !!!

If this sub was rated at 3000 watts rms, maybe he would understand, but they say it's 10 400 watts rms !!!! So running it with 4000 watts, my buddy can't understand it's too much power !

Why did SS act like that ?

I don't want to own any SS product now !

Big marketing bs !

Kicker is mainstream too, and I have never seen or read about Solo X blowing so fast ! But I know they blow too !!!

Alpine, MTX,JL are all mainstream, and I don't think they do it like SS.

I will never trust any SS product now !:WTFBubble:

It wasn't the sub, unless there was a manufacturing issue (which is very likely). I've seen the XXX subs on 2 6500D amps at 18volts without any problems.

Burnt coils is due to misuse. Plain and simple. Could be dirty power coming from the amps at a certain volume level. He is probably turning it up to high and doesn't realize it (listening to the system while driving with the windows down. Turning it up to hear it over the other noises).

And why would anybody in their right mind get a recone from PAP? Jeezus, shoulda went to Pyramid, it'd probably be better quality.

So, I'm leaning towards user error on this. No, I'm not saying that cause I'm sponsored by SoundStream. 9 times out of 10 a blown sub is caused by user error.

That's what we all said, "turning it up to high" means too much power, its thermal failure plain and simple, no need to point fingers, as its the operators fault for pushing the woofer past its limits, and its SoundStream's fault for rating it so high.

User error for sure ! Even if they won't agree.

But when they "say" 10 400 watts rms, it is difficult to understand that a 4000 watts amp can blow it so easily !!!

I hope they will both learn that as a lesson. But I can't blame them. They don't speak English to learn on US forums, and in France it's hard to find good info about subs and box building.

Thanks to you all.
