Posted June 28, 201114 yr Im waiting on a Bl 12" and have been planning to do an underseat box for it. Im wonder if anyone has experience or insight with it tuned lower than 30hz. I really love the lows
June 28, 201114 yr there becomes a point where you wont be able to find music that will play that low... unless you listen to pipe organs
June 28, 201114 yr Author im just thinking around 28 hz or so, it has a pretty low xmax (18mm) and i was wondering how it performs in this scenario.
June 28, 201114 yr 30 hz will be fine. Remember that your SSF is set 3-5 hz. below your tuning. I had my 15" bl tuned to 33 and it surprised me on the lows. I don't see any reason to go below 30, personally.
June 28, 201114 yr How much room do you have to work with under the seat? Lower tuning means the port is going to take up more internal volume so your box will have to be bigger. I agree with Watts, but if you were really curious you could graph it out and see. If you planned on tuning so low why didn't you choose a driver you knew would excel in that area? If you don't mind me asking. Edited June 28, 201114 yr by theluker69
June 28, 201114 yr Author I have a good amount of space, its gonna be tight but i can squeeze about 3 cubic feet grosse out of it.I originally was going to order a Q but the Bl had a little shallower mounting depth and i need every 1/4 inch lol, anyway im confident in its abilities i just wanted some insight from wise ppl here
June 30, 201114 yr if you listen to really slow drop bottom stuff, which some people do, and you're going to consistently play in the low 20s, then tune to 26. if you're going to listen to regular rap, and some slow stuff, 30 is perfect.
July 1, 201114 yr Author 30hz is what ill do, its getting about time to start building the enclosure. Bl 12 under the back seat of a nissan titan, i hope it works as planned
July 1, 201114 yr Anything below 30Hz really should be left for the Q to take care of. BL shines in the 30-33Hz range. My box is tuned to 31Hz and it doesn't start unloading until around 24Hz and hits the lows just fine. Granted, it's not a BL, but they should react about the same.
