Posted September 12, 201114 yr it will be my first time buying a high output alternatorwhat else would i need other than a deepcycle battery and voltmeterthank you
September 12, 201114 yr Author oh, forgot to mention, i already have the big 3 on knu kolossus 1/0, i just need the alt and battery, would i need those things that regulate the voltage??
September 12, 201114 yr Big 3 upgrade would be VERY SMART.. ... oooo and 8 - 10's to show off that alts power?.. jkOh crap you just said you did the big 3... Oh well Rofl Edited September 12, 201114 yr by Jd377
September 15, 201113 yr Make shure you ground the alt with 1/0gauge wire propely.what do you mean by this ??
September 15, 201113 yr Does your factory alt. have a ground wire?dont think so... its a 91 civic the only thing my alternator has is a plug with a bunch of wires going into it... and then a stud with a wire that goes to the battery.
September 15, 201113 yr Same as every other vehicle I've ever worked on, why would you need to add a ground cable to something that is bolted to the engine block?

September 15, 201113 yr I've been hearing this about using a ground cable for the alt but I've never used one, nor has anyone else I've ever known and nobody has had any problems at all.
October 16, 201113 yr all adding a ground to an already grounded alt (bolted to block which is grounded itself) does is add another ground for it, its neither a bad thing nor required. i do have my alt grounded to my chassis as well as it being bolted to the block.
October 16, 201113 yr in all fairness ask mechman why there alts have a ground stud on it. Ask what's the point of that'
October 16, 201113 yr It's there because it's another path of least resistance which is the path the electrons choose. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't, but it's cheap insurance either way.
October 18, 201113 yr ya actually when i got my mechman alternator it had 2 studs... one for a line from the alt to the pos. terminal.... and one for a line from the alt to the neg. terminal on the battery.... Edited October 18, 201113 yr by 10000wrms
