  • 20" relates to the length. But you will need more than one 4" aero for your enclosure. You need roughly 10" port area using aeros for your enclosure.

  • Go here and complete both formulas. Complete the one at the top first. 10" is the number I figured out with your given application.

  • Complete the top then move to the bottom.

Ok so I want to order my aero ports but I need to know how many I need first.. I still don't totally understand how to figure it out so If i tell you the box specs can someone help me know how many I need and how long to make each one?

I plan on buying 4" aero ports from this site: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=268-352

My box is going to be 29"x15"x22" I typed it all in and it is like 4.5ft^3 but after displacements it would be about 4ft^3

So if my box is 4ft^3 and I want to Tune to 30hz and put in 4" aero ports, how many do I need? and How long would each one need to be?

If a different size is better.. I believe they have 2" and 3" aero ports as well.. Please help :) I want to get these ordered so they are here when the subs get here monday!! ( 4 SA-10s )

Subs up, ports back towards my hatch

your calculations seem off JD... I plugged in your dimensions and just subtracted sub displacements (.48) and the box is left with 3.92 cubes... If I were you, I would increase one or two of those dimensions by an inch ... Most likely height and depth you might be able to do... At least according to Torres' calculator ... I see your total "gross volume" at 4.96 cubes.. And 1 6" port would provide you with 7" of area per foot... With a length 16" you would get about 30Hz...

Am I wrong here?

If you did 2 4" ports you're looking at about 6.15" of area per foot... With a length of 14" giving you 30Hz ...

Hope I'm not giving misinformation as I am only reading what the program is giving me... :peepwall:

So if I did 2- 4" Ports, you said that would be 14".. is that 14" long per port, or 7" long per port equaling 14" total? Like would I make each tube 14" long inside the box or each one 7" long in the box?

They would each have to be 14" long... And let me plug in 4 - 4" ports and see what I get..

If I did 4-4" ports, how long would each need to be in order to achieve 30hz? the way the programs say it, confuses the crap out of me.. because when it says like for example.. 4ft^3 and (2) 4" ports, port length needs to be like 15.6"... the # that it says the port length to be, is that per port or do you divide that by how many ports you have? Like if you have 3 ports and it said you need 21", would you have 3 ports 7" llong, or all 3 are 21" long each..

because I thought for 4 - 4" ports they would each be around 28-32" ( estimating ).. the box isnt even like that wide lol, So how could I fit 4 - 32" long ports in a 30" box...

So thats why I was wondering if you divide the total ( 30" ) by 4 ports? .. if they each have to be the full 30" then I cant do 4 ports..

Per port.

You are not going to get away with two 4" ports. Go with four 4" or two 6"

with 4- 4" ports you're looking at 36" in length which I think Sean is right, 2 ports is not enough area at least from other woofers I've seen plugged into here... Going with 2- 6" ports would require alot more length...

The length I have to work with for the length max the ports can be is like 22" thats from my hatch to my back seats basically.. max I can fit for port length per port.

Could I do (4) 3" ports?....... I have enough length to do those..

  • Author

I guess its about 4.48ft^3 after displacement

I wanted to tune low for this build :( like 30

Remember, when you have adequate port area you have the ability to generate more pressure even if you tune a bit higher

  • Author

So the more port area the better? Or if you get too much can it be bad again? Maybe I'll try to see if I can squeeze a few more inches per side and increase volume to get down a little and still keep port area up

Yes, too much and you lose efficiency.

Is there a website or some way that I can use to figure out how much port area I need that I can use over and over to figure out how much I need for this and future builds? :) im trying to learn so that I can know these things to help others and myself in the future! Thanks for all of your help as always!!!!!

Wow :) thanks guys! Really appreciate it! I'll make sure to take pics of everything in a build log once we get it building. Subs should be here Monday and box building to follow soon after!
