Just placed my order for the 330 max 200+ at idle alternator that Mike Singer makes. Has anybody tried these out before?

I'll be sure to post up a review when it comes in! :)

His website is pretty useless, just a contact form.

200 at idle is awesome. :morepower1: What kind of truck do you have? Silverado? What kind of power are you planning on running? Definitely tuned in for the review.

Yes his website is about as simple as it gets, however he has responded to every e-mail I've sent him literally within a few hours at the most. If there are any discrepancies, you can just e-mail him and he'll clear it up!

Currently, I'm running 2 72Ah batteries that are about 62 pounds a piece, weldingsupply 1/0 throughout, going to my AQ2200D and AA 10.4. I plan on running somewhere around 6000 watts at 0.5 ohm in the future, I think this alt has the balls to back it up! ;)

That all sounds great, except for the 0.5ohm.

0.5ohm = people who can't afford to get the "power" they want at 1ohm.

I guess it's one thing if your competing and rewiring for daily...

Just my opinion, I'm sure a bunch of others will jump in here and say "I've wired my xxx down to 0.5ohm and haven't had any issues. blah blah blah. You just need a strong electrical. blah blah blah."

I could see it for competition where you are in a power class that does not clamp your power for burps, but I agree it is just dumb to wire that low for daily especially when power is so cheap.

OP:

looking forward to your review on that alt.

i only run below 1ohm if i play in "spurts"...

Otherwise, my volume is set so low that i would be BARELY breaking a 140, bass-wise, so the amps do not get stressed from blasting it wired that low.

That's the difference...

Daily can be wired to 0.5ohm but if you expect stability, don't keep it cranked alot.

I'm expecting to wire at 0.5, after rise I'll probably be seeing 0.7-0.9. That's the idea anyways :P

Oh yeah everyone forgot about impedance and frequency...

Silly us.

Stefan you always do that, you make a sarcastic comment and dont clarify yourself... Im aware that you know more about this than me, please correct me instead of making me look stupid. The final ohm load will be in the 0.7-0.9 range, I dont understand your "silly us" comment.

It's one thing to do it for burps playing a sine wave where the impedance will rise and likely plateau somewhere like a logarithmic function.

But music is dynamic and there is no telling what the impedance will be. It will constantly be rising and dropping, enough to put additional stress on your amplifier. Overtime it might just catch up and bite you in the ass.

I don't claim to be "all knowing", nor do I have a firm understanding on the fundamentals of speaker design and so forth, but I tend to open my ears from time to time, and read here and there. :)

I see... Hmm. Well if I was to run at 0.5, it would be with an amp that is still under warranty at that level.... So if it fried I'd get a new one (assuming the warranty is as good as ot should be) :)

... then recone the btls to 1 ohm and run 1 ohm! :)

A pair of dual 1.4 coil subs wire down to 0.35 nominal, rather than .5 no?

Why would you do that and why do you believe that?

Curious how he tested the 200A at idle as well...

Some magical fairy from smd probably said "Just add 0.2 to 0.4 to the og load."

His website looks decent enough that you'd think he would actually go into detail about the alts. 200A idle at what rpm? and rpm of alt or engine, heh.

So I wouldn't have to recone the btls.. But I might go with a different option, nothing is set in stone right now. Just weighing options. I could get an amp that does power at 2 ohms! :)

Cutting slack in 3 2 1, slack cut. :P

True, didnt think about the fact that they're not truly 2 ohms/coil..

Cost of recones VS cost of an amplifier that makes the power you want at 2ohms in comparison to one that does it at 1ohm.

Power is the least efficient way to increase output, it's easy though.

I've made my decision! I'm selling my BTL, getting a couple of these funky pups I've heard so many good things about, and wiring at 0.00095 ohms. Each FP will be seeing about 19000 jiggawatts, ideally.

I know your joking but I hope you didn't take any of my comments negatively.

No, not at all. I really do appreciate your, as well as everyone else's, input. I'll get back on here for some real recommendations when I get some money. :P I was just throwing around ideas.

Whose the boner that is recommending things based on impedance rise?

Yes.
