Posted October 31, 201113 yr i have a 1995 ford ranger ext cab 4.0 v6. has 150xxx HARD miles on here. this noise had occured before about 8 months ago ten stopped. havent heard it since. they yesterday, it started again. it sounds like a supercharger and only does it when the truck is cold... any thoughts????

October 31, 201113 yr It's the cap on the idle air control valve. It's a common problem on the 4Ls. It needs cleaned or replaced. All the Explorers in my family have done it as well as our old Aerostar.
