Posted January 2, 201213 yr Well I've decided two woofers take up too much room in the back of my escape. So I'm going for a single woofer set up. At first I was thinking one Sundown Z 12, but then I saw 18s... So now I need recommendations, One woofer to replace two SA12s. My amp is a Memphis PR1.5KD. 1500w at 2 ohms, I'm unsure of any lower than 2 ohm stability. I'd like it to be under 500.
January 2, 201213 yr I'm guessing you don't want to lose output? What are your max dimensions that you are willing to use for an enclosure? example: fenderwell to fenderwell width is 45" and depth is 40", but your only willing to use 20" width and 30" depth or what ever. Were the SA-12s in a ported enclosure?
January 2, 201213 yr Author SA12s were ported, and Ill use all the space in the back, not too sure of the dimensions back there though...And I would like to gain output:D
January 2, 201213 yr your going to run into an issue of air space with a larger woofer like an 18 defeating the purpose of you going with a single sub.will be interesting to see the end results for sure.
January 2, 201213 yr lol... well you sure are full of information about your build for help... how do you expect help with the info your coming forth with?edit. WTF.. " i want a single sub because 2 are taking up too much space " then 3 post later. "ill use up all the space in the rear " soooooooo what?
January 2, 201213 yr SA12s were ported, and Ill use all the space in the back, not too sure of the dimensions back there though...And I would like to gain output:DYou initially stated that your current enclosure takes up too much space so you want to switch to a single driver setup. Now your saying you will use all the space in the back? I'm perplexed.
January 2, 201213 yr Author I always start out small and end up big...Basically just one sub woofer to replace those two
January 2, 201213 yr I always start out small and end up big...Basically just one sub woofer to replace those twoOnce you take your Viagra? So you don't care about gaining any cargo space? The new enclosure can take up the same space if not more (likely larger if your looking for more output and using a larger driver) then your current enclosure? At this point people are going to need to know your max dimensions before they can really offer advice.I'm still baffled by your completely contradictory statements. Perhaps it's something you should sleep on?

The SA12 box took up basically all the space in the back, meaning a larger driver wouldnt fit. How about one Z12?

More volume will increase the overall efficiency in terms of output, so larger box usually equates to more output.Contrary to popular belief: I cannot read minds or look deep into one's soul. Therefore I have no idea how large your current enclosure is, and if you can or cannot fit a larger driver with appropriate volume. One Z12 would be a downstep in output, you stated you wanted more output. At this point I don't think you really know what you want, so I'm going to go away now.

January 2, 201213 yr It's going to take a pretty serious upgrade to gain much output over your current setup. Simply dropping in a bigger, more powerful sub might not net you the performance gains you desire.
