Posted January 15, 201213 yr Hey everyone. I purchased an SA-8 after reading a ton of reviews and now i am ready to start building a box. Since i've never built a box before i downloaded a couple of programs which apparently i have no concept on how to use :/ I listen to a variety of music from metal to dubsteb so i'm looking for a a box that can do both SQ and SPL. From what i've seen online it looks like .6^3 box tuned to 35hz is the way to go. Sub is going to have 500rms at 2ohm feeding it. I was thinking of having the sub point towards the roof and the port firing to the back. The narrowest point in the vehicle is 38". I emailed ram design to see if they could design me something but i haven't hear back yet and i'm impatient If anyone is able to design me a box with a slot port (for my ease of building) with the above info in mind i would be most appreciative. (paypal account waiting)Cheers.Kevin
January 15, 201213 yr The important thing with sa8's is port area. It has a lot of xmax and likes quite a bit of port.I had mine in a .63 cft tuned at 36hz and liked the sound.
January 15, 201213 yr Author What type of port did you use? slot or other? And what size / length port did you use? I think im going to go take some measurements and figure out what size i want the box to be then work on figuring out how to get the port size / length etc to work. First time for everything

First time for everything If you're putting good power to them, running one sub in .6ft^3 or two in ~1.25ft^3, the port is going to need to be in the 40"+ area to get a reasonable tuning while using adequate port area.
January 17, 201213 yr Author I spent a bit of time playing with google sketchup and this is what i came up with. This seem like it would work well? Since ive never built a box before i guessed at what it was supposed to look like from the measurements / info that i got from that calc program.Any thoughts?
January 17, 201213 yr That's too much port area, I'd try 16-18 per cu. ft. for an sa8 and you have to enter the number of common port walls to get the proper box specs. The box you drew has 3 common port walls.
January 17, 201213 yr I would disagree. The sa8 has 16mm xmax and I think the port is ok. I do agree it needs to be changed to 3 common walls on the calculator.
January 17, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the input. Still new to using these calculators etc. so i just guessed at a lot of the fields. I guess i should pay more attention to all of the required fields Adding in the number of common walls changed the tuning by a ton. Guess its back to the drawing board.
