Posted February 18, 201213 yr ok im making my first attempt at a custom box. its for 1 sd12 in the trunk of a honda accord planing on sub facing back and ports facing up to go through the rear deck.plywood (no mdf at local building store) 3/4 inchdepth 18"w 20"h 14"port (1)L 12"dia.3if my calculations are rightbox is 2.21 ft3tuned to 34.15sub displacement is .10 so that should net me a 2.11ft3 box (damn i hate math)am i anywhere close? or even headed in the right direction? any input would be great cause right now its in a cookie cutter Q-logic box (1.5 ported and its starving for air)thanks guys and gals Edited February 18, 201213 yr by dragula230
February 18, 201213 yr Because if you're running a single round port 3in diameter 12in long you'll be at ~25hz and not have enough port area
February 18, 201213 yr Author just trying to get some more sound in the cabin moving air would be nice but like i said its only 1 12 on a alpine m-1000as of right now just trying to get some basics down for when i step up to some zconstill now its been slap some wood together and hope it sounds good
February 18, 201213 yr Author Because if you're running a single round port 3in diameter 12in long you'll be at ~25hz and not have enough port areaok so much for the box tuning calculator app
February 18, 201213 yr I came up with 25hz for your final tuning as well. That's pretty low, I wouldn't tune that low. If you can't get mdf can you get birch ply?

February 18, 201213 yr Author if i remove the displasment in the calculator it comes up with 24.99 hz so changed some numbersport 10" long4" roundshould be 35 hz
February 18, 201213 yr 36hz but only 12in of port area. You need about 24-30...Otherwise you'd still choke it. Edited February 18, 201213 yr by Mathew
February 18, 201213 yr Author if i go 19 long and 6 dia i get 28.27in2 but tuned to 41.73 is that to high for a daily driver listening to nine inch nails?sorry for the noob questions just learning the proper way
February 18, 201213 yr High thirty to low forty is good punchy bass like rock or country. But you'll drop off on lows. I'd aim for 38hz
February 18, 201213 yr If you're on a computer use the Torres box calculator. You can figure port out if box tuning. If you run a 6in Aero 19in and put 6in externally you'll be around 39hz (just guessing roughly)
February 18, 201213 yr Author ok i think i got a handle on it if i use 24" of 6 inch 5 " external i get tuning of 38 with 28 in port area.
February 18, 201213 yr 1 problem, you have to have room between port and wall... roughly 6in. Do 10external tell me what you get. If its lower than 39 you'll be fine
February 18, 201213 yr Author ok the final size if i have it right are w 32h 17depth 141 port 12" (3 external)dia 6" should be tuned to 36.59but that increases my box volume to 3.73 ft3 will that be an issue cause sundown recommends (ported 2 ft3)
February 18, 201213 yr do you have to have a circle port?? can you use a square port???How much room do you have? Edited February 18, 201213 yr by Mathew
February 18, 201213 yr 18x18x18.1ft^3 sub displacement.2 4in ports 16in long, 4in of the 16 external38hz, 2.3ft^3 with 25in^2 of port.
February 18, 201213 yr Author thanks im using round ports cause its just a temp build (getting a different car soon) and wanted to try my hand at design and building (that didnt go well)guess when i get my zcons ill pay for a design due to space limits ill have to go 18x18x17high but it should work fine
