ok im making my first attempt at a custom box. its for 1 sd12 in the trunk of a honda accord planing on sub facing back and ports facing up to go through the rear deck.

plywood (no mdf at local building store) 3/4 inch

depth 18"

w 20"

h 14"

port (1)

L 12"

dia.3

if my calculations are right

box is 2.21 ft3

tuned to 34.15

sub displacement is .10 so that should net me a 2.11ft3 box (damn i hate math)

am i anywhere close? or even headed in the right direction? :puzzled: any input would be great cause right now its in a cookie cutter Q-logic box (1.5 ported and its starving for air)

thanks guys and gals

You're wanting Aero port?

Because if you're running a single round port 3in diameter 12in long you'll be at ~25hz and not have enough port area

just trying to get some more sound in the cabin moving air would be nice but like i said its only 1 12 on a alpine m-1000

as of right now just trying to get some basics down for when i step up to some zcons

till now its been slap some wood together and hope it sounds good

ok so much for the box tuning calculator app :suicide-santa:

Are you wanting round or square port?

I came up with 25hz for your final tuning as well. That's pretty low, I wouldn't tune that low. If you can't get mdf can you get birch ply?

Use torres :fing34:

Weird I used the btc app on my Droid and it gave me 25hz

if i remove the displasment in the calculator it comes up with 24.99 hz so changed some numbers

port 10" long

4" round

should be 35 hz

36hz but only 12in of port area. You need about 24-30...

Otherwise you'd still choke it.

if i go 19 long and 6 dia i get 28.27in2 but tuned to 41.73 is that to high for a daily driver listening to nine inch nails?

sorry for the noob questions just learning the proper way

High thirty to low forty is good punchy bass like rock or country. But you'll drop off on lows. I'd aim for 38hz

If you're on a computer use the Torres box calculator. You can figure port out if box tuning. If you run a 6in Aero 19in and put 6in externally you'll be around 39hz (just guessing roughly)

ok i think i got a handle on it if i use 24" of 6 inch 5 " external i get tuning of 38 with 28 in port area.

1 problem, you have to have room between port and wall... roughly 6in. Do 10external tell me what you get. If its lower than 39 you'll be fine

ok the final size if i have it right are

w 32

h 17

depth 14

1 port 12" (3 external)

dia 6"

should be tuned to 36.59

but that increases my box volume to 3.73 ft3 will that be an issue cause sundown recommends (ported 2 ft3)

do you have to have a circle port?? can you use a square port???

How much room do you have?

Edited by Mathew

18x18x18

.1ft^3 sub displacement.

2 4in ports 16in long, 4in of the 16 external

38hz, 2.3ft^3 with 25in^2 of port.
