March 12, 201213 yr Your biting something off you can't quite chew--yet.I suggest learning about: different enclosure alignments, their characteristics, the efficiency of speakers in general, impedance, specifically impedance curve of a speaker VS frequency in an enclosure, current draw of amplifiers, the class and rules of the organization you plan to compete in, and your goals for the stereo. You want a loud vehicle for music overall, or do you want to strictly compete, and build a one note wonder type enclosure?
March 12, 201213 yr Author i might have,im willing to learn, ive been checking in to some schools aswell but id like to think people who are into it as a hobby could teach me more than a school can, ive installed a few systems and built a few boxes(someone has always helped me design them) but id like to learn more, ide like to be able to use it for music as well as competethanks for your time
March 13, 201213 yr Author well ive been thanking and lookin, i think im probly going to do(2) 15" SSA Iconseither (2) Crescendo BC2000D or (1) Crescendo BC3500D
March 13, 201213 yr Well you've certainly come to the right place to learn. Don't be afraid to make threads about specific stuff. Also use the search function as it's "access" to many many years of accumulated information.
March 13, 201213 yr your planning to run double the rated power to the Icon? lets start over here. you need to format this post better so we can attempt to help you.give this a read please,
March 13, 201213 yr well ive been thanking and lookin, i think im probly going to do(2) 15" SSA Iconseither (2) Crescendo BC2000D or (1) Crescendo BC3500DI would go with the bc3500d 3500 1ohm load. Dont give them that much for a daily driver!
March 13, 201213 yr I was able to do 149db with two 15 Fi ssd's on 2200rms.Unless you have the same vehicle as him, and willing to share enclosure specs, that isn't very helpful.

March 13, 201213 yr A single 2000 watts amplifier is enough for 2 Icons for daily music listenings. But he mentioned he would like to compete also.
March 14, 201213 yr A single 2000 watts amplifier is enough for 2 Icons for daily music listenings. But he mentioned he would like to compete also.he could compete, who knows how well he would do.. doubling power is only 3db gain, theoretically.
March 14, 201213 yr Author how do you figure your stock class for usaic comps, and iasca bass race, bassboxing?ive got a couple of soundoff dvds, and id like youtube and see what people are running in the classes i might be intereasted in
March 14, 201213 yr Usaci: http://www.soundoff.org/rules.htm Also look at the links to the pdfs.Iasca links to rules don't seem to be working.
March 14, 201213 yr how do you figure your stock class for usaic comps, and iasca bass race, bassboxing?ive got a couple of soundoff dvds, and id like youtube and see what people are running in the classes i might be intereasted inKeep in mind what works best in one vehicle may not in another. All vehicles have a different transfer function, or "cabin gain."
March 14, 201213 yr i dont compete so i dont know the rules or whatever the requirements might be. the correct equipment can help but install is everything, perhaps more so for competitions. first thing you would want to do is figure out what your useable space is. i see you mentioned some dimensions above. the next step would be to find out the net volume of such an enclosure. this will tell you which subwoofers will fit, i would assume you would go with a pair of 15s or 18s.next you would want to figure out how much power your going to run. it sounds like you will have a decent electrical system to back things up. i dont know enough to say you can safely run XXX amount of watts. last step would be choosing equipment that will meet your goals and taste. You have SSA icons on your list. they're are a great subwoofer but they are not exactly designed for competing. however, you could still post good numbers in the correct install. Something more along the lines of a Fi BL would seem to fit with your goals more. I think you could save some cash by getting some used amp(s) and subs. 3) these are some of the subs ive been looking atDC L2/L3 12" SKAR VVX 12"/15" SA 12"/15"SSA DCON/ICON 12"/15"alsoFIPSIbut i dont know what series or what to pick to buildidk about the DC or PSI subs and i would pass on anything skar. The Dcon is not a match for the power your running, assuming your serious about running ~4000 watts as you said above. Icons would sound nice but you would have to be careful with that kind of power, really no point in putting more the rated to any sub on a daily basis. SSA Xcon would be good choice if you like the Icon but need more power handling, from what i've heard. Fi has some good subs that might work for you. Fi Bl or BTL are more in line with your goals. Sundown SA would only work, with the power your running, if you ran 3-4 subs.
March 14, 201213 yr Author i must be stupid because im not realy understanding what this says (took from the usaci outlaw rule pdf)A car audio system’s total wattage shall be determined by the highest manufacturer rated output dividedby the proper number to ascertain the 4 ohm power output, or the manufacturer’s 4 ohm rating, whichever is higher. If any amplifiers rating cannot be determined, that amplifier will be moved to thehighest power class in that division until such time as a rating can be determined. USACI reserves theright to independently test any amplifier to determine the true RMS power rating and reclassify thatamplifier as needed.
March 14, 201213 yr Author i thought about this all night and this is what i think it is saying(crescendo bc3500d)3875@1ohm/4=968.75 but it would be consederd 1150 because of crescendo saying it does 1150@4ohm, wich would be 601-1800 classor(bc2000d)2250@1ohm/4=562.50x2(for 2 amps)=1125 but would be considerd 1400 because crescendo says it does 700@4ohm, wich would still be 601-1800 classdid i finaly figure that out? please correct me if i am still miss uderstanding
March 14, 201213 yr Author ok so i think im starting to realize that for my budget if im going to compeate i need to be looking at the 0-600 classan amp that is rated 600x1@4oms or 300x2@4ohms or lesswith that said let me redo this
March 14, 201213 yr Author hello everyone i would like some help, im trying to put a system together that is worthy of competion on a small budget, id like it to be able to play music as wellbudget: 1200car: 1994 ford explorer, 4door, 4.0/v6,electrical: big3 1/0 awg,i well either be putting in a ho alt or havin stock redone, ill have 2 batts.(everstart n1), and well run 1/0 awg for power/groundmy avalable space is: 40W x 18H x 36Di would like to hit 145 -155+ if possiblesubs and amps i have been looking at aresubs:dc level 3'ssundown sa'sjmh audio dads bd'sssa icon'sfi bl's not sure on exatly what i need to buidpsi not sureamps:saz 1500dskar 1500.1dc 2.0kcrescendo bc2000did like to buy new but if it means achieving my goal id buy a used amp to opt out for better subssystems i have head are1996-2x15" stokers, 2x10" kickers, seald box seperat chambers 2x lanzar 50c, and a ambulance alt, 82 buick regal1999-2x12" pyle, seald box seperat chambers, 2x15" HX rf,seald box shared chamber, 1 targa 450, 1 cerwinvega 7202, stock alt. subaru wagon2001-2x15" groundzero,4 2.5 round ported box, 1 pg xs2500, ambulance alt.92 ranger2008-2x15" audiopipe, seald box seprat chambers, 2x spl 1440, 2 stock alt. 2door geo metro2010-1 13Av.2 ed, 1 ed nine.1, stock alt. slot vented box@33hz, as consoul in 94 chevy step side short bed singlecab, and in my explorer(i just put it in my bro/friends pathfinder)i built all boxes by myself but had help/suggestion on designi however have moved from Iowa to Colorado and all my tools are in storage back in Iowa, so ill be finding someone to build the box for mei hope i formulated this better this time, and i am starting over with a new mindsetthanks everyone for being pasent and helping, why i try to figure this outGod blessSamuel Edited March 14, 201213 yr by SamuelHermon
March 16, 201213 yr i would start by picking up a used/refurb amp like an sundown 1500. i doubt you will hear a difference between any of the amplifiers listed. From there the subwoofers are really up to you.i think you wanted to go with a pair of 15's? Its unfair to group a subs like the Sundown SA's in the same category with subs like the Fi Bl but with the amount of power your running it may or may not be beneficial to spend more on subs.i would NOT spend your entire budget right away. perhaps its best to put together a basic setup. A pair of SA-15s on a sundown 1500, for example. And, see how it performs for you. after that you can decide if its worth selling the subs and moving up to something better, add more power, etc. if you buy used equipment you wont suffer a huge loss when you're ready to upgrade. i would think that you could find a pair of sa-15s for about 200 shipped a piece and the 1500 for around 250.
