Posted May 3, 201213 yr hey guys i have a quick question i recently built a box for two zcon 12 inch subs.it consists of a single 6 inch aero tuned to 37 hz only 9 inches depth in a enclosure 5.46 after sub displacementit seems like the sub closest to the port is unloading or sounds Blown at frequencies higher then 40 hz but the one on the left doesn't do this.. could it be the encloser is causing the sub to unload and sound distorted?i had designed a different box which would be a slot port with these specsgross volume 6.98 ft^3port volume : 1.43ft^3physical port length 20.00"port bends : noBaffle displacement : 0.19ft^3port area range 60-80in^2port area 81in^2port area per ft: 16.27in^2net volume : 4.98ft^3tuning frequency : 37.05 hz2 common port wallswoofer disp. : .38
May 3, 201213 yr It could very well be that the woofer closest to the port is unloading on the high notes making it do funky shit. How much power do you have? Do you have any current pictures of the enclosure and it's surroundings?
May 3, 201213 yr Have you inspected the sub when taken outside the box, and tried a few free air sine waves? If it sounds good to you then try switching the subs into different holes to see if the one that sounded good earlier, and vice versa.

May 3, 201213 yr Author i inspected the sub and the coils read out ok and here are the pictures of the current set up
May 4, 201213 yr Thats like puttin those subs in a sealed box then punching a hole in it lol Def needs more port
May 4, 201213 yr Author Thats like puttin those subs in a sealed box then punching a hole in it lolDef needs more portlol well it was tuned alot lower = more port but it only sounded good on really slowed down music i just didnt want to build a new box with out any input is the box above have enough port?
May 4, 201213 yr It needs a lot more port and your current port is to close to the trunk wall. Most likely this is causing the unloading issues.

May 4, 201213 yr Yes the box in the sketch would work a lot better. Your current box is maxing out your space in the trunk. Have you tried to turn your box around? Fire it into the cabin? If you did that and sealed it off from the trunk, I believe your results will be a ton better.

May 4, 201213 yr I am using that much port area for 2 8" mids...Is there a reason you strayed so far from the recommended enclosure?
May 4, 201213 yr Author I am using that much port area for 2 8" mids...Is there a reason you strayed so far from the recommended enclosure? No sir just a new to the aero port thing read it in a couple of different places that it would sound good.. come to find out they were incorrect.. would there be enough port area from the drawing above ? Which is 81 sq*2 for 4.98 cf ?
May 4, 201213 yr That port is acting like a longer port, because of how close it comes out to the trunk, changing your tuning. Also make sure there are no air leaks whatsover. You need a lot more port for those subs, your sketched box would be much better.
May 4, 201213 yr your runny a leaky sealed box basically..odd be cause it seem like your on the right track with everything else.
