Posted June 2, 201213 yr Alright so im not going to buy the crimpers for one time use... i was at homedepot and picked up plumbers solder... ik everyone says use electrical solder... whats the difference? And will the plumbers solder be good enough?... im using 1 guage to a 1300rms amp.
June 2, 201213 yr Solders contain a chemical that cleanses the surface that the solder is applied to. Plumbers solder uses an acid that will eventually destroy/weaken your wire. Electrical solder obviously does not use this acid. The smart move is to cut off the connection plus an inch or so of wire (the solder has been sucked into the wire a little bit if you soldered correctly) and then resolder with electrical solder.
