I am looking for Experienced suggestions and/or advice. I currently have a Kicker L7 15 but I want to upgrade to a louder Subwoofer but with good Sound Quality.

I would like to upgrade to 1(one) 2,200+ RMS sub, but the most important for me is SQ (sound quality). I mostly listen to hispanic music (in case this helps).

I'm completly unsure of what's best, Please feel free to recommend any Sub that meets my demands.

Thanks to all in advance. smile.gif

Welcome to SSA man! Like I was saying earlier I feel that the XCON would fit your needs the best. One thing that you haven't mentioned is what amplifier you are planning on using, or if you have the electrical system to back it up. That information will be necessary to know before you can make a decision.

What kind of space for a box do you have? (measurements would be best).

Hi again ricksi30.

The amp I have is rated @1 ohm: 2600rms and have no problem with upgrading or changing it if neccesary. I already did the big 3, also have 1 Kinectik 2400 batt and a good battery with good cranking amps up front, a better output alternator than stock. Also I would like a box with these Dimensions more or less (W x H x D): 38" x 17" x 15"

What amp? Those measurement should be good for a nice single 15.

its an SPL amp.

The brand SPL? If so you won't be getting 2600 watts, so you'll be fine using it with the XCON. The model would help determine that, and what coil configuration you will need.

But the amp is not an issue for me right now, because as I said, if needed I'll upgrade it.

For now I just make sure that I buy the correct sub that I'm looking for, and then I'll worry for the rest.

Well I would look at the XCON, Fi bl, Sundown Zv3, or the ZCON and SP4 if you insist on running that much power. What do you actually want from this upgrade? You say Sq but then you are talking about running 2600 watts?

  • Author

well yes I would like a much louder sub but with SQ.

So, basically what you are saying is that i'm better with the Xcon, and if I go with the Zcon I will have a lot less SQ?

If you are looking for Sq you should not be looking at a high power handling SPL oriented driver. Does the ZCON sound bad...no.

ok, fair enough, thanks so much, I will try to make the final decision by this week, I hope LOL!

Another thing, I read somewhere online that the most important thing to make a better SQ is the midbass speakers or something like that, What does that really mean?

A properly setup front stage is a very important part of a system. You can buy a component set and an amplifier, or a processor, amplification, and raw drivers to run an active front stage. Most front stages consist of four drivers, two tweeters and two mid bass speakers.

ok, very nice, lol, but I need more simple and detailed words to understand what do you really mean by that, sorry.

As dumbed down as I can say it while still trying to say it correctly.

Easy way: Buy a component set (includes passive crossovers, mid bass speakers, and tweeters) and a 2 or 4 channel amplifier. Plug it all in and set the gain.

Harder way which can yield better results but more work: Buy an active capable head unit (pioneer 80prs), buy a 4 channel amplifier, two tweeters, two mid bass speakers, and manualy crossover the drivers using the processor in the 80prs.

ok, so what I need to buy is mid bass speakers, where is it better located, in the front doors, rear doors? or do i have to change all four? Also if you can, please recommend what's best and loudest for a 6.5 size mid bass, Remember not alot of money available to spend, lol!

Google 6.5 component set and you will see what I mean. Buy a Boston Acoustics GT 2125 on ebay and a 6.5 component set and it should be a great improvement over stock. If you can budget 3-400 for a front stage you will be happy, keep the sub amp that you already have and do the front stage first.

You want your front stage in the front. If you went to a concert, you wouldn't have the music coming from behind you. You will see a great improvement over what you have by buying a component set- 6 1/2" mid/woofer in the door and the matching tweeter "next to it", you'll really need to check out a bunch of threads on this forum and read up a little of what I'm talking about. Don't buy anything yet! Read up a bit- there are dozens of threads on here about which component set could be a good match for you. Remember, there is no "best", there are lots and lots of options, take your time and do it right the first time.

Thanks so much to both, for your patience and answers, Wow, good to know. Is there anything I have to specifically look for? Or anything you recommend that could point me to the correct direction and purchase? besides what you just said.

ok, i upgraded the radio and fix the frequencies on crossovers, now I have a better sound, thanks for all the advices.

Now if possible, I would like to have experienced advice to help me decide between Mayhem 12 Ascendant Audio 12" 2500W Mayhem Series Subwoofer or the ZCON 12 Sound Solutions Audio 12" 2250W ZCON Series Subwoofer ,

1- I would like to purchase the one with best bass Sound quality.

2- I want to know if its better to get the 15'' inch instead, or the 12'' inch is just as good, and why?

3- How big of a ported box do I need for each?

You don't want SQ. Not even close or the rest of your post doesn't say so anyways.

Also curious why you are fixated on subs as most hispanic music doesn't even really have bass.

If it is truly a pick one of two question, then I'd run the Zcon.

well, I don't only listen to hispanic music, I said I mostly do. And as I said before I am looking for more extra bass because I currently have 1000rms in bass and I don't feel its enough for me, and maybe I dont really understand this spl or sq stuff or whatever, but thats the reason why I'm here, asking you experienced guys to give me some help, if you may.
