November 13, 201212 yr Author Build log begins...Step 1: Building the Sub BoxI'm going for a sealed box with 2.5cuft per speaker.I can only work on the box a little bit at a time and I'm doing it at a friends house so it's gonna take a while.Build Day 1:I got all of the MDF cut to size and used CNC to cut the exact Cut ID for the holes in the front board.Day 2:Got the vertical boards done and the horizontal bracing in.Day 3:Over-Bracing continues.Got the vertical bracing in. Will finish the box build next session. Don't have braces so I stacked some beer cartons + tyres on top for weight.
November 13, 201212 yr Looking good! Thanks for starting a build log and getting some pics up. I'll be tuned in!
November 13, 201212 yr Author Thanks mate. I'm looking forward to finishing the box build tomorrow and then I'm just waiting on the subs to arrive. Hopefully they are here in the next week or two.
November 13, 201212 yr Looks good, I'm curious as to how well that brack works out. Not the dowels, but the wider ones.
November 13, 201212 yr Author Looks good, I'm curious as to how well that brack works out. Not the dowels, but the wider ones.Yeah, I don't know if you can tell by the picture but there will be a piece of dowel connecting each horizontal bracket to the back wall of the sub.I'm not sure if I made them too thick but that can always be fixed at a later date. I went a bit overboard with the bracings considering how thick the MDF of the box is.All I know is the box is going to be solid as a rock.
November 14, 201212 yr Nice choice on mids and tweets.. Pricey.. I figure you like sealed boxes better than ported? Why did you choose to do 2 sealed 15's vs 1 ported and save money? Just curious, tuned in to see how this turns out
November 14, 201212 yr Author Nice choice on mids and tweets.. Pricey..I figure you like sealed boxes better than ported? Why did you choose to do 2 sealed 15's vs 1 ported and save money? Just curious, tuned in to see how this turns out A mix of wanting good sound quality and wanting to make my own box. I'm not very experienced when it comes to building and a sealed enclosure seems like a good place to start. I've already learned a lot from making this box and in the future I would be much more confident in making another sealed or attempting a ported box. Also, got the back board attached today. Just gonna wait on the subs to arrive before doing anything else.
November 21, 201212 yr Author My subs just arrived!! Wasn't expecting them for another week or two at least. Very excited! Here are some pics:I'm hoping to finish up the box and install these in it next week.
November 28, 201212 yr Author Been really busy at work so haven't had time to finish the box yet.Got the front board on then got rid of a lot of excess glue on the joints and put gap-filler inside the box to seal it up.Here's how it's looking:I'm hoping to put the carpet on tonight and then put the subs in! November 28, 201212 yr Author Cheers, I'm really happy with how the subs look and how the build is going. Can't wait to get home from work tonight and finish this up!
December 1, 201212 yr Author Got the carpet on today, still waiting on the terminal cup I ordered over a week ago to arrive before I can put the subs in :s
December 1, 201212 yr I wouldn't use a terminal cup anyway. Drill a small hole to run your wires and seal it up.
December 1, 201212 yr Well done! The Peroni containers made me thirsty. Edited December 1, 201212 yr by Chris
December 2, 201212 yr Author I wouldn't use a terminal cup anyway. Drill a small hole to run your wires and seal it up.I would rather do that, but what do I use to seal around the cables?Well done! The Peroni containers made me thirsty. Cheers mate, a hard earned thirst!
