Hey Sean... Why can I wash my wool socks, but not my wool suit?!??!!??

biggrin.png

I itch just thinking about it
All my nicer wools are the most comfortable thing I can wear.

Aside from shorts.

The cheep ones I got are like pure burning hell.

I just bought 4 wool baselayers. Ultratight fit too. No air space. LOVE THEM

Dumb question Matt. Do you shave up your neck or down? While down gets closer, up is less irritating. All directions isn't always your friend. Sure it is closer, but your chin/stash grow faster anyways or are at least more visible so don't try so hard on the neck.

Do you guys think that a straight razor would cause less irritation than a regular double edge safety razor?

While I love my Braun, it takes longer to get a decent shave with that than it does to lather up. The Braun can be used in the car or at work though. Some days I'm even giving my face a second clean up in the afternoon.

Must be all that superman growth hormone, and bull shark testosterone.

Practically impossible to beat a straight razor. They're like sushi/sashimi knives in that they need to be properly maintained, though. Safety razor is the way to go for most people. No maintenance other than changing the blade. Way cheaper than Mach 3, Quatrro, et al. blades, too.

I shave as little as possible because my skin is a sensitive little bitch. I let the calluses on my hands go away, and once I got back in the gym my hands bled like crazy until they grew back. Never again.

I literally have a swirl pattern on my neck. The wife calls it the hurricane as it looks like a hurricane on the news. Really pronounced on the each side of my neck. It's ridiculous.

Mine isn't so straight either, not quite a hurricane but a sharp blade will get it in a single direction

It's absurd actually. The parts that don't swirl have hair growing up towards my chin halfway up my neck and then down from my chin to the middle of my neck.

It's a mess.

Hot hot water, conditioner, nothing solves it.

You are right though, super washing my electric or just using a new cartridge always help more than anything.

If you get agitated you sholdn't switch between them. It takes a good 10 shaves with an electric to get your face accustomed to it. After that it should be more gentle on you.

Electric only this year. Other than one time for an interview.

But it doesn't leave me smooth unless I really rub it in. And then of course I'm causing irritation.

It's probably just acting up and on my mind because the arthritis is flaring up, allergies are flaring up and making me more bitchy than normal.

It sure I will obsess about something new next week.

This is just on my mind right now.

Here is what I found that doesn't sound like fluff and is different than modern shaving. I'll skip the pre and post shave info as it is really skin specific and I am still reading. It wet shaving cannot be done with a multi blade razor effectively according to what I am finding.

#1 Using a shaving brush with shave soap or cream is the biggest step one. The bristles on a brush exfoliate your skin, lift debris and dead skin along with the hairs. Using your hands mats the hair down. Even if you use an oil or preshave ointment the brush and foam you make with the brush and not from a can work to get the hair read and keeps it moist for the cut.

#2 One blade means that you can always have your face "wet". The closeness of the blades on those multi blade units means the first blade cuts and removes any lubricant and the rest of the blades just drag on dry skin. So the first blade cuts hair. The rest just scrape skin and collect gunk.

#3 You can clean a straight razor and a double edge safety. And safety blades are $1 a pop for then vs up to $5 for mach 3 and such. Maybe more. So it is more cost effective to replace your safety every shave than your multi blade 2 times a week. So either way it's cheeper and cleaner. Cleaner means less bacteria on your face.

My father's been using a brush and cream since like forever but I could only find crappy brushes, which smelled horrible after the first use. So I'm now using can foam.

Your argument against multi-blade makes sense, I'll try it with a single-blade, curious how it works.

My facial hair grows in shitty white trash patchy ways.

Slowly too.

Looks like I found the tweeter for the Miata install:

http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/scanspeak-soft-dome-tweeters/scanspeak-illuminator-d2004/6020-00-tweeter/

FS is 600Hz and by the frequency response graph I could get away with crossing it as low as 1k, should pair up well with the Extremis. They're also small, which is nice in a small car.

You won't get a healthy 1k out of them, but they are nice and do dig. Start at 1500/24 and carefully step down

Why do you say 1k is not healthy? Asking so I can gauge out other tweeters :)

There's also the larger version, this:

http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/scanspeak-soft-dome-tweeters/scanspeak-illuminator-d3004/6020-00-tweeter-textile-dome/

7mm larger flange diameter it's not a big issue.

Interesting read on this shaving topic. I am strongly considering the single blade now myself. I have extremely sensitive skin & generally end up with some irritation regardless to steps currently taken.

A-HA, Vifa and SB Acoustics make something nice:

1" Vifa:

1" SB

If I can get similar performance to the Illuminator from the Vifa, I'm set.

I'd never try to get smooth with an electric. Hell in 2 hours it won't be anyways so why bother.

Only smooth route is to lather 3x. Shave down twice and up once.

The meaning of the sentence changes when you move healthy to the other side. Just an adjective describing the 1k. At reference levels they won't take it.

The Illimunator is way nicer than the Vifa. I don't know about the SB, but am doubtful it'll compete.
