How do I know what you have, what you did, what your failures are and what not? I will say I've had bloatware concerns with non-rooted Droids, but even then outside of an occasional piece of shit hardware from a stupid manufacturer there are not problems. Think about it, it flat out isn't possible otherwise the internet would be alive with anti-Droid commentary. You see what happens here when one sub breaks, people shit. Now imagine that times a million. The flaw is absolutely not intrinsic to the operating system.

I used to use only Apple's. Saw the light a little while back.

Pretty much guarantee nearly everyone that recommends an Apple product is either non-computer literate or owns one and hasn't really tried another solution. No harder than you tried Windows 8. *read no judgement on 8 from that comment, just a reflection on your comment above*

I was an exclusive apple user long ago too. Things have changed on both fronts though.

Neal, need Camry pos when done. It's still on my list.

What do you mean?

You raise some really valid points. The Apple only guys don't play serious games, and hate using the windows OS we use every day at work. They know them inside and out and yet still hate them.

As far as my level of 'try' on windows 8, no it was minor at best.

I have an OG Ipad that I use for music in the car, and the occasional ebook read or web browse. For that I have no complaints, but I also got it prior to Android tablets, so if I was to do it again I'd likely opt for an Android one with greater OS/App/Storage flexibility, and at half the cost.

Itunes sucked dick for the longest time as it lagged like crazy and was virtually unuseable, but after the last update it works well for me:

I can quickly scroll on the side through artists, or simply start typing the first letter. To the right lists the different albums. You can also switch the layout to Genre, or playlists in lieu of sorting by artists. Any lossless music I have, I convert with dBamppoweramp converter to Apple's lossless, and drop in.

I generally despise Apple products, and their superior-minded followers, but I'm pretty content with their latest Itunes and Music interface on the Ipad. Is it the best? Fuck if I know, but it works for me with no qualms.

Now if I didn't have an Ipad than I'd probably use a different player on the computer.

The drop out has nothing to do with it being Droid

Your perception of Windows 8 is based off no time use.  Far superior to Apple's craptastic bs IMO

Lossless has NOTHING to do with the media player as they all can do that

Then you have a teeny unorganized music collection.  Try importing even a measly 100 albums into Itunes and negotiate it on a mobile device.  It'll drive you nuts.

Microsoft surely has compatibility issues but there is freeware out there that solves it all easily

Spending extra cash for less utility and a bigger mess is stupid IMO.

Again "use it with your cellular data" is not determined by the platform.  Most airports have gone free and for how "often" you fly buying a more expensive device even if that purpose were logical is self defeating.

I have to agree, Apple's organization idea is crap.

Music player MUST sort by:

Folder

Genre

Artist

Album

Song

In any and all orders of sort. Otherwise it is useless.

Searching should be able to be limited to any of those categories as well.

Itunes does all of that except by folder. Amusingly I have my entire 80gb music collection in a single folder--no subfolders.

I always use my ipod on shuffle. Get in the car, turn on the HU, turn on the ipod, set to shuffle and done.

I know and that is flat out a deal breaker for me. Ask any dead head how many versions of Dark Star he has and how you'd sort those. Gets even worse if you branch out into Jazz.

Now play a whole album (minus tracks you previously wanted removed) and continue the play list with a few songs, then another album and then ....

If you want to spend hours on an apple device fine, that is a couple clicks for me. Dynamic play lists ftmfw.

I hear ya, but for the average person listening to the latest album of Beyonce, and Rihanna--itunes is game. :D

I'd also like to see your tag library and ask you how you update it.

Genre as a sorting mechanism is USELESS unless everything utilizes YOUR genre tags.

I currently have 8 genre's. Anymore and it doesn't so much help. *excluding things like Christmas etc as outside of December those get temporarily "hidden" from the library*

I don't use Genre, no need for me.

If I feel like listening to Tool, I type in T, and select Tool. If I want to listen to Primus, I type in P, and select Primus.

Not everyone is anal. :P

Then what causes it?

Based on no solid time use? True. Based upon initial use and added to with recommendations/usage from others I work with? Yes

Fair enough

I have no problem navigating over 300 albums on my iPod touch.

But is it worth the hassle to have to go 'freeware' hunting every time they try to patch something and fuck it up worse?  I just have been getting sick of windows as of late. Especially with their issues.

As for the free wi-fi that is usually true. But other spots it doesn't exist. The other cellular data deal is because a lot of my travel will be by car or plane in the next year. I've been offered a few positions that will require numerous travel, and sometimes hunting for wi-fi will be more trouble than its worth IMHO.

I think it depends on the device manufacturer and how they implement the OS with their device. I know people who have crashes on an LG Droid device on the daily, but I think my HTC has crashed maybe 3 times in 2 years, and yes I have done all updates and no root. My Galaxy Tablet is stable as well, but it has already crashed once in 5 months... which IMO isn't bad with the use it gets. Every device will have issues, of course. Don't expect an iPad to be trouble free.

As far as travel, I have a hotspot I use for side work. I keep my scanner hooked up to it and my PC just so I can access service info when necessary. I also use it with my Tablet when on the road, just in case.

But honestly, I think it is all a matter of preference. If you like the Apple device, buy it. If you like droids, buy a solid device, not a cheap POS. I promise you that neither device will be perfect.

The bottom line is, we all have differing goals, needs, and interface preferences. Sean's idea of perfect is different from mine, which is different from Stephan's, which is likely different from yours. Sean and I like droids better, so of course we will steer you towards droid devices. Stephan likes Apple, so he will steer you there.

I didn't exactly say I like Apple. I just wanted to play the devil's advocate to Sean's hammering on Itunes.
