May 5, 201312 yr Today's ride.. about 20 miles total, solo ride so the pace was really light. It's tons of fun navigating by map. Top of the hill, overseeing the city: Top of the hill was the ridge line in the distance And I still had to go to this ridge line From the previous ridge line I saw the destination, a few lakes, barely visible in the picture Very windy on the lakes... Deserted house
May 5, 201312 yr Come on next paycheck, I need some off-road tires, road tires don't feel confident at all on dirt and gravel
May 5, 201312 yr I usually like the high end shit from Sherwin. Mike. It is reliably a good product. That's good to hear because sherwin has a store in town. Anywhere else is at least a 45 min drive.
May 5, 201312 yr I was surprised to find places looking just like where my grandparents lived just around the hill. Wide valley a handful of houses and a lot of green
May 5, 201312 yr Since there are a lot of knowledgeable guys in the ihop, what would you suggest for DYI strut bars?Get some steel as aluminium won't weld, make mount, tack weld it on the car, then take it of and reinforce the welds, paint and install ?
May 5, 201312 yr Dang, Adrian, if I were closed, we could definitely conquer some hills together. Haven't rode since last year.

Are they actually an improvement? I remember reading about pros and cons but can't remember what is what. Bracing the unibody in only one place is not ideal as far as I know. Maybe combined with a brace under the unibody rails it would make itself worth?
May 5, 201312 yr If you were to build it yourself, make it adjustable. Even if you tack the parts on the car, you can end up with differences screwing your work.

Maybe combined with a brace under the unibody rails it would make itself worth? Some claim good results. Some claim great with sway bars(the ones you are talking, under the vehicle) and strut bars added. Better handling, responsive steering, etc.As for adjustment I may add something similar:
May 5, 201312 yr Sway bars are an improvement for handling but are not what I meant, I meant braces for the frame rails, something like this:
May 5, 201312 yr That's a K-member brace. Honestly Teo, if you're not racing it, I really wouldn't bother. With as little power as you have, you really have to be driving like a nut on the street to reap any benefit.
May 5, 201312 yr Yep, that's the first example which came to mind. I know that there are front crossmember braces for BMW's but this was quicker to find

With as little power as you have, you really have to be driving like a nut on the street to reap any benefit. I'd second this. I know some guys who really drive and they refuse to use strut braces. I have one buddy who runs an STi who even removed the rear sway bar. You do want some body roll to help keep the tires on the ground.

With as little power as you have, you really have to be driving like a nut on the street to reap any benefit. I'll be eventually lowering the car and want as much stability as I can get. It doesn't seem like a hard project to do in the end.And I like to corner rather fast, still young and reckless at times.
