July 29, 201312 yr New PR for olympic squats, 220 lbs, 8 reps (with a bit of help on the last 2).The local football (not soccer) trainer was there with 2 players, one which I knew, they were training for powerlifting and the coach was not excited about olympic squats. What makes a squat "Olympic"? I've read that keeping the heels ~1 foot apart, toes pointed out, weight up high is called olympic squat http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/tya4.htm I try to alternate them one week one type, next week the other
July 29, 201312 yr About 10 years ago, when dad had the CO2 business he had some space rented in somebody's backyard. And during summer I'd spend time there. The owners had a daughter, probably 6-7 years younger than me and we used to run around and race. Fast forward to now, she's a junior olympic runner, with quite a few wins in 400m and picking a scholarship in the US, to race under the US flag.We stealin your runners!Muahahahahaha. Hell yeah, it's a no-brainer though.
July 29, 201312 yr Take that tutorial with a grain of salt. He obviously doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. 1. You'll never find a professional powerlifter with the bar on their neck like that. 2. In order for a squat to be legal the top of the thigh must be parallel or below the top of the knee. Not 6 inches above like in his pictures.
July 29, 201312 yr What if I have 38" thighs? Then the top of my leg would make me go lower than 90 degree bend.

July 29, 201312 yr They got plenty of super heavy weights capable of getting their ass down far enough. I'm sure it's possible.

July 29, 201312 yr Seriously? I didn't even know that. The clean and press is one right?I hope I didn't come off like an ass. I have heard the term used before and people use the term for different versions.Clean and press was one until '72. Now it's just Snatch and Clean & Jerk. Anything labeled as an "Olympic style" lift usually isn't. Edited July 29, 201312 yr by Penguin4x4
July 29, 201312 yr I think he was a bit high, (high as in not squatting far enough down) but form was perfect. I set the bar a couple inches lower than he does. Edited July 29, 201312 yr by Quentin Jarrell
July 29, 201312 yr Going to parallel puts considerably more stress on your knees than going past parallel.
July 29, 201312 yr skip to 2:00 and watch Dan green lift. That is nearly identical to how I hold the bar.
July 29, 201312 yr where in CO. Been fucking cold here too. Record low in factRecord Lows? Where you at? We are in Rollinsville, outside of Nederland, outside of Boulder.

July 29, 201312 yr iI see absolutely NO point in lifting weights outside of gaining mass needed for sports.
