I posted one that was $29k.

It was the older body style though which will get eaten by the M5. The new body though it is the other way around. Hell I think the new A8 will take the E60 M5 handily.

I didn't see the link Damnit...

I didn't know the new A8 was such a champ. Sexy looking.

You sure the M5 is in your price range? Not saying you can't afford it, has nothing to do with that at all. Just like I could easily drive a Gallardo...but I can't afford to own it.

This is exactly what I hate about all new cars. The integration of all the computer systems. Why the fuck can't you just have the tranny/engine integrated and leave the interior as stand alone.

Going to really get things fucked up in the future as all the American companies are adopting the same things. And we can blame our stupid fucking president as well. CAFE standards can suck a big fat one.

That is because they always compare the A6 with the M5, but unlike BMW Audi makes their flagship their flagship. S8 is so much better than the 6

Well, as Quinton mentioned, it's a bitch to own.

I can afford to keep it going. It is if I want to.... It's a lot to have hanging over my head. One of the reasons I love the 996 is it is engine, transmission, and that's it. No funky junk.

E46M3 is the same to me.

Should drive an X5M as well. I am now curious on your take.

I cannot find one to test. Though I haven't looked because of the huge huge price jump.

Have to say that is one pleasant surprise on the Benz. It doesn't eat tires like I am used to. BMW's and tires net me about 15k miles if I'm lucky.

I'm shocked at how nasty bad ass that E60 gets when power is on and S mode is ready. I didn't let them spin, but I could have made the whole test drive sideways.

Despite the TQ advantage the E55 and E63 Benz feel tame. I think the suspension is just kinder to the tires on Benz. The M5 is much more intense. It also feels lighter and tighter though.

I really didn't expect the intensity of the M5. Having tried to get the M6 to wake up and get lively, I thought it would be peppy. Everything I read kind of pointed to the M6 being a bit more mundane but just as quick for the most part.....

That is a FUCKING lie it is a rocket.

Exactly why I am not 100% sold on getting an 08 CTT myself. Car is free I ONLY pay maintenance...but I am still a bit queasy on the process.

I think your memory is old. The E55 is the nastiest of the three, BY FAR, then the E63 then the E60. The E60 has by far the best suspension though and is much better at pounding corners, but from an engine standpoint the E60 is rather tame until you really make it spin. I drove all three back to back to back and couldn't believe how soft the E60 felt.

I can understand that. My desire for a nice car is so stupid. I wish I could get rid of it. It makes me really depressed.

Too much of my energy is spent for my desire of something that is irrational. I should take the money for the car, buy a civic, part out the expedition and put the cash in an IRA.

All are quick enough though it takes a few drives before that wow feeling turns into something you can actually absorb. The sad thing is, no matter which you own a few months into that surprise feeling will be forgotten and replaced with a "hey this is normal". I actually think the Benz would get beyond that more only because of the opportunity to make it grunt comes easier and therefore more often.

Sucks as I flat out don't trust the Benz from a reliability standpoint at all. Mine has been robust, but it isn't liking life beyond 80k miles so much

Dude, I am right there with you. If I don't buy a house by next spring I am pretty sure a Rossion will be in my garage. It is NOT what I should do.

And unfair misnomer on the free for me. I could trade not having a company car for about $350 post taxes per month. Be rather hard to buy a car and insure it for that though...and if I did and had some left, how much would I give up to have something nicer to drive.

Always circles.

The E55 I took for a walk must have been neutered. I could spin the tires, but it didn't feel like power.

I kept the v10 spinning high for my little trip, I have become much more bold when test driving and I pound corners hard now. A friend who I usually go car browsing with has frequently mentioned he hates how hard I corner.

:)

In the explorer the sales guy and my buddy had white hands. I can only imagine if they had been there for the M5.

One of the Dinan guys was with me in the X5M from Motorwerks. His comment was that the gas pedal seems to have an affinity for being planted when I drive. Said it was the most aggressive test drive that was in control he'd been on. Knew I wasn't buying it at the end and asked me to come back when they got something else fun in.

The Jeep SRT I recently drove was similar. That guy was so nice I took him for a much nastier rip in the ML after.

Isn't a non-Turbo 997 just as quick as the M5?

Can't you also find one for near $35?

I cannot find a 997 for under 30 anywhere. I would like the S or GTS, but maybe the 997 is enough upgrade from the 996 I won't care.

The 996 S I test drove is the only car that compares to the v8m3 and now the E60 M5.

The Porsche gives such a feeling of athletic skill it's insane. I also grew up driving hot imports and small wrung out cars so the 911 platform really feels comfortable and I can drive it so precisely. It's "natural".

Very unlike the UN natural m5 lol

If I didn't have kids...

We have no plans, so it's waaaaay too easy to justify for me.

Why not a 2 door then? Almost always easier to get in for us undersized guys.
