Posted February 26, 201312 yr I will be installing a 270amp Alternator and looking to put either 2 Xs D3100's or maybe something else i guess some like the Xp 3000's for daily ?I will be powering 2 Sundown Saz 3000d's at a final ohm load of 2ohm's (Each amp will see 1ohm load) didn't know if ohm load made a difference but none the less. Just looking what would work best and make me not have to worry about frying my amps or having the chance of heating these amps up big time from huge voltage drops etc.I might be looking at throwing up a diehard platinum 31m in the front if it will fit as well as doing the big 3. Also how many runs of 0gauge should i run from the front battery to the back ?Doing the calculations i am getting about 6.3k ish watts my system should support ? Am i way off or does that maybe apply to once the voltage hits the resting voltage of the batteries ?
February 26, 201312 yr what kind of voltage are you looking at having? I used to run 21,000w with stock alternator and 2 batts. Voltage wasnt good though.. Need more info.
February 26, 201312 yr if you're going to run them for daily you're going to need to get another alternator, unless you don't have a problem putting a battery charger on your batteries every night. my "daily" might be different than yours though I run my system full tilt from the time I get in the car until the time I shut it off.
February 26, 201312 yr i run 6.5 K on a 300 amp mechman and 450 smp hours worth of battery, and i have to watch my voltage and idle up while demoing.
February 26, 201312 yr Something needs to be inspected then.. I am currently wired to 12K with a single 270A and 528aH of batt in the rear and i never drop below 13.3v at idle. Alternator kicks on at extreme low rpm, somewhere around 300 engine. Rated to do 160cold, 140 hot at 650rpm. I havent clamped it but it makes my engine sag when demoing at idle down to ~400rpm.
February 26, 201312 yr Author Anything about 12 volt i figure should be fine, i can always tone it down and run straight Rms to the subs so that would put me at 4.5k, guess i will finally determine what i want to run once i get it all up and running lol.The saz 3000d's are pretty solid imo i was running 2k daily with stock alt and battery for well over 3 years lol, not that i would recommend it or anything and never had any problems with subs or the amp.I am not normally full tilt from point A to Point B but here and there i do like to turn it full tilt when letting friends demo and so forth. I personally don't mind putting them on a charger everynight as the place i am going to move to has a garage in which i will be able to do that i just figured with about 330Amp hours and 270 amp that i should be close keeping my voltage in the high 12-13.5 range.
February 26, 201312 yr Author I take it i would be better off getting a 320 amp alternator then to try to keep my voltage near 14.4 ? I could be wrong but i always heard and i guess followed amp x voltage = watts. So at a 40% resever on the alternator at 320 of course would put it at like 192 amps after 40% so like 2764 watts for the alternator alone. and with the extra amperage at resting voltage on the batteries hitting a 330 amp hr bank at say around 12.9 volts would be about 4,257 watts.. for a combined total of about 7k... after 12.9 voltage of course. *Edit* I just personally was going to go with the excessive amperage over the mechman due to higher idle output but if the 50 amps from the alt are the way to go then i might go with the mechman. I just figured since a lot of my daily driving and the countless stop lights here and there that the idle would be good for helping recharge the batteries. February 26, 201312 yr Author Also maybe running 4 deka's as opposed to 2 d3100's ? Since they are cheaper and look about the same on the spec's ? Just would be where to put them would be what i would have to deal with ahaha.
February 26, 201312 yr mine is tested at 201 amps at low speed and 306 at high, im also in texas so heat is a major factor, not sure what would be the issue i have 4 runs of 0 from the alt to the rear, batteries are brand new, my cells are bus bared. oh my starting voltage is 14.0 hot, so when im idled up i stay around 13.8 on the NS1 at 1 ohm.... at .25 its a diffrent story, 11.8 at idle 12.8 idled up
February 26, 201312 yr I would get 3 diehard platinum g31s and see how voltage is. If its not where you want it then keep adding batteries until you are happy.

Around 13.6-13.8v at idle. Now, you did mention 0.25ohm! 6,000w at 1ohm vs 6,000w at 0.25ohm is a big difference in efficiency. Your current draw must be ridiculous.. Back when i was running several 3500ds, i clamped one wired to 0.45ohms rising to whatever. It pulled 271A. Try and clamp your current draw fi u can.. hehe. I know it's hard with so many cables on the NS-1. What i would do is clamp each cable separately at like 30% volume and see what the Amperage differences are. Then you can clamp just one cable at full tilt and guesstimate what the other 2 cables pulled to give you a rough idea.
February 26, 201312 yr yeah and double inputs makes it even harder to clamp to find true draw,Jon... I know you posted it when you found them but where did you get those spacers/grommets/bumpers in between the amp and enclosure??? I tried to PM you but apparently you're full
February 26, 201312 yr inbox is empty now, here they are, they help but.. well my amp is in repair for vib issues as we speak.. first time in 8 years but. https://www.google.com/search?q=endlink+bushings&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

February 26, 201312 yr Author Guess I'll work out the voltage problems when everything gets in and installed. Anyone know a killer box designer etc ? I'll have to do a test fit of the batteries. Might be able to squeeze them beside the box that way they wont get n the way of the port of infront putting the port closer to the back.
