Posted March 22, 201312 yr Ill be getting my 270a alternator in Wednesday and was wondering what size fuse to use for the wire between the alt. & batt. I'm assuming a 100a ANL will be insufficient when the alternator is running full tilt.
March 22, 201312 yr I would go 300 amp unless you can find a 275. No need to go much higher (or really any higher) than the alternator is capable of putting out. This is assuming you run the alt -> battery wire large enough to support that current, which I figure you will do since you got the big alternator in the first place.

March 22, 201312 yr Im gonna have two runs of 1/0. You should be good with a 300 amp fuse in that case. Some companies under rate alternators a little bit, so the slight cushion won't hurt. Here is a post from Mechman on another forum, which pretty much says the same thing.. Our Mechman alternators are underrated, so if you had one of our 270amp alternators you would need close to a 300 amp fuse. A little cushion goes a long way in preserving your electrical system and stereo components / accessories. I hope this helps.Michael[email protected]
