Posted April 15, 201312 yr is it good to have less or more of it? and also why do most companies only post THD of 4 ohms, does it change with each load?
April 15, 201312 yr THD is total harmonic distortion. The more THD the worse the quality of the output signal will be. Companies will tell you the THD at their rated loads as it changes. Lower loads typically have higher THD, but it really depends on the design. The number they post is only accurate for the rated load.
April 15, 201312 yr Do realize at the same time there is no controlled definition so it is a rather easy specification to manipulate.
April 15, 201312 yr Also keep in mind while a lower number is technically better from a measurement standpoint, it does not mean you will actually hear a difference. Most amps are rated at 1%, but assuming the same measurement method is used having a lower rated THD won't sound any better. Also THD is just the distortion at rated power, the amp will produce more distortion at higher power levels.
April 16, 201312 yr oh really? so most likely there won't be a difference in sound quality?Unless the amp is broken or a terribly cheap lowest of the low end design....no.
