Picked up one of those little cheap $7 actuators in hopes to fix my driver side door since the motor went out in it and a replacement costs $260.. i dont think so, :)

So.. i go to cut the jacket off the mechanical cable for the lock and guess what...

It's PROTECTED by steel rope.. Ugh...

So, how can i get through the steel rope without breaking the itty bitty mechanical cable inside? lol

Yea it is.. am I going about this too aggressively?

If you have the actuator all you need is the brass colored holder for the cable. Once the cable is mounted in the holder you peel back the outer shell and attach the actuator to the cable via a rod.

How do you peel it back?

What i am saying is i have cut a section of the nylon jacket off the cable and then there is steel rope!

Inside that is the cable..

take some pics wt ur big ass phone to help us out

So im guessing its something like my clutch and gas cable on my bike

if so, to lock and unlock is just pushing and pulling that cable correct?

if so, you can get a shorter or longer cable that you can surely make something for the actuator to attach to and push and pull the lock open and close

i found out why i was having problem..

The actuator i have is not going to work at all with cabling systems.

Im waiting for a used oem actuator to be sent to me from ebay so hope it's right..

Toyota vehicles are notorious for the motors going out on their door locks.  The motors are all over Ebay and only cost a dollar or so.  That is if they have the one you need.  Side not, I've used a normal rod to replace cable actuated locks several times.  You just have to mount it and bend the rod to work mechanically correct.  IT's pretty simple.  Usually room is the issue.
