Posted July 12, 201312 yr I have the discontinued infinity reference three way six by nines. There's a +3db switch on the tweeter housing, are they normally attenuated, or how does that work? i was thinking about turning the switch on, and i wasn't sure if it may cause any damage? I have them powered by a 2010 Rockford P400-4. Their nominal impedance is 2.67 ohms so i would think their getting decent power.
July 12, 201312 yr It'll make your tweeters brighter. Whether or not you need it, or like it, you'll have to try it out. Edited July 12, 201312 yr by stefanhinote
July 12, 201312 yr I think I turned mine on if I remember correctly, but I'm also running the stock HU. I definitely helped out the tweeters.
July 12, 201312 yr Author Ok, i definitely like it. Just wondering also, if their normally attenuated and turning it on brings them to normal? Or is there actually a boost?
July 12, 201312 yr It's called +3db because it makes the response of the tweeter +3db over the mid. But really it just reduces the amount of attenuation on the tweeter by 3db. It's not a boost. With the switch set to zero the circuit is actually attenuating the tweeter by -3db. That said, the amount of power delivered to the tweeter will still double compared to a setting of zero, so they will get louder faster and it will be possible to smoke the tweeters with a comparatively lower volume setting (assuming you are running enough power).
