I have a small Merlin us amp for my mids in my s10 pick up. Whenever I listen to the radio for even less then 5 minutes when my truck is not started it completely drains the battery to the point where it has to be jumped. I had purchased a new battery and still have the same problem, so I had the battery and altenator tested and they are fine. Nothing else drains the battery except listening to the radio for a very short period of time. What could be the problem, any suggestions? Please help

Yes cableguy just for mids that's all I have, I want to put subs in, but I should be able to listen to the stereo now for way more than 5 minutes with out it draining my battery. There's two small speakers in the door and two small speakers in the dash not sure what size.

I'm not sure because I bought the truck off my cousin and he installed the amp, there are no lights on the amp, so how could I tell? But it only happens when I listen to the radio with the truck not started, but it shouldn't kill the battery, if you have any ideas to what it could be please let me know

If the amp is running at idle while everything else is off, it would be slowly draining your battery. and when you jam with it with the ignition off, it's just making it worse on your battery. I would get this checked and atleast and make sure that this is not causing your problems ...

Get a volt meter and see what the voltage is with the key off. It should be close to 13.o resting.

Then measure it with the key on and the stereo on and see how fast the voltage drops.

If it starts dropping real fast try disconnecting the power to the amp and see if that helps.
